Though overall a sleek and well-designed program, PlayStation Stars not working is an issue users occasionally have to contend with. Typically, this takes the shape of points not being added to accounts for eligible purchases or campaigns showing up as incomplete even though users have diligently ticked off objectives.
Unfortunately, there’s no silver bullet here, but below you’ll find several ways to fix PlayStation Stars not working. If you’re new to Sony’s free loyalty program for PS4 and PS5 users, check out how to get PlayStation Stars points and all the latest PlayStation Stars rewards and campaigns.
Make sure you’re logged into your PSN account
A simple one, but make sure that you are logged in the PlayStation Network account associated with your PlayStation Stars account before trying to complete objectives or making a purchase on the PS Store. It’s also worth checking that your PS4/PS5 is connected to the internet as well.
Make sure to ‘Start’ campaigns
Confusingly, PlayStation Stars automatically registers you for some campaigns. For others, you’ll have to register and start them manually. Not the slickest way to go about it, but it is what it is. To avoid this, make sure you open up a campaign in the PlayStation Stars app, scroll to the button, and tap the white ‘Start’ button before trying to complete the objectives.
Switch game versions
Call it a quirk, albeit an annoying one, switching to a different version of a game will sometimes cause the app to register a campaign task or challenge. By a different version we mean playing the PS4 version if you’ve tried with the PS5 version with no luck and vice versa.
Restart the PlayStation Stars app
A favourite of IT teams across the globe, if PlayStation Stars isn’t working, close down and restart the app. Through technical wizardry well beyond us, this does occasionally resolve problems, especially those linked to points-earning campaigns showing as incomplete even though the objectives have been completed.
Wait it out
Due to server congestion in your region or or temporary connectivity issues with the PlayStation Network, waiting a few hours or a day often resolves PlayStation Stars not working. If you’ve tried all the solutions above, wait a bit and there’s a good chance a campaign will complete and you’ll get your points/collectibles shortly thereafter.
Contact customer support
If all else fails, you can get in touch with PlayStation’s customer support team who’ll look into the problem for you. If there is a known issue, the team can add missing points retroactively for PS Store purchases.
