This article contains officially confirmed information combined with expert industry speculation, rumors, and analysis. We will update this page with the latest news as soon as it’s available.
- Physint is an in-development action espionage game from Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions.
- Though it has no confirmed release date, Kojima expects development to take five to six years.
- The game is slated to be a PlayStation exclusive and is being developed in partnership with Sony.
- Little is no about the plot and setting right now, but speculation is rampant.
As Kojima glides graciously into his sixtieth decade, the famed auteur isn’t putting on the brakes after the release of Death Stranding 2. Making up one half of the duo of games on his current slate is Physint. Described as a “return to the action-espionage genre” made in collaboration with PlayStation, it will aim to blur the line between a game and a movie. We anticipate hours of cut scenes, no surprises there.
It’s all a bit hush-hush at the moment. Other than Kojima making the Physint announcement back in early 2024 alongside Hermen Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios, and a few nuggets dropped during the Beyond the Strand live-stream celebrating Kojima Productions’ tenth anniversary in summer 2025, there’s very little known about the project.
Expected Physint release date
There’s no official Physint release date as of the time of writing. However, it’s more or less been confirmed that it won’t reach players for a fair few years, namely, because Kojima Productions plans to make and release OD, a horror title made in collaboration with Xbox and Jordan Peele, first.
Furthermore, in an interview conducted by the French magazine Le Film Français, Kojima revealed that it will take “another five or six years” to make the Physint game. That puts us around 2030 at the earliest. In other words, expect a bit of a wait to play this one.
Physint gameplay and trailer analysis
As of penning this piece, there’s no Physint trailer in existence. Kojima Productions did, however, drop the first piece of teaser concept art via Geoff Keighley’s Instagram page for The Game Awards in September 2025. It depicts a shadowy figure wearing a flowing trench coat and carrying an unspecified submachine gun, set against a city backdrop, with “Here Comes the Feeling” stamped on the image.
It’s all very mysterious, though there’s a subtle, but unmistakable Metal Gear Solid-like quality to the Physint poster. Naturally, the most prominent piece of text is the game’s title and the man’s signature, “A Hideo Kojima Game”, just in case we’d forgotten.
Physint expected price
As there’s no release date, there’s similarly been no mention of a price. However, we’ll indulge in a spot of speculation here. Given it’s a PlayStation collaboration and very much a big-budget project, we can expect AAA prices. That lands the expected price somewhere around $70 for you lot across the pond and £65 for us Brits. With the expected Physint release date still far in the future, we could potentially see PlayStation hike prices because, you know, inflation, trade wars, and all that.
Physint platforms
As it stands, Physint has been confirmed for PlayStation. But, which PlayStation? That’s the question. By 2030, we expect Sony to have launched its next console, presumably the PS6, so there’s a good chance it will land there. It may very well be the first sort-of-announced PS6 exclusive.
We are also likely to see a Physint PS5 release, much like we’ve seen PlayStation exclusives do in the early years of a new generation, as players slowly migrate to the newer platform. Again, this is all very speculative, so be sure to sprinkle on the requisite dose of salt here.
Physint setting and story analysis
With a single promo shot to go on, it’s currently impossible to determine what Physint is all about with any sort of certainty. The poster suggests that the protagonist will be a gentleman with some experience in infiltration and espionage, based on his attire, weapon, and tactical tool belt. This lines up with Physint being a next-generation reinvention of Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid action espionage games.
The city in the background is interesting, as it suggests an urban setting, possibly futuristic or at least contemporary. It feels less married to the heavy military inspirations of Metal Gear Solid and more tied to spy thrillers.
More concretely, we do know that actors Don Lee, Minami Hamabe, and Charlee Fraser are working on the Physint, and Kojima plans to delve into his extensive Rolodex of contacts to bring the game’s characters to life. He is reportedly still finalising the cast and a first script, so we likely won’t get any meaty details about the story for a while yet.
Why is Physint so exciting?
After Kojima’s acrimonious divorce from Kojima, many fans feared that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was the last we’d see of Kojima dabbling in the action-espionage genre that spurred his rise to fame and made Metal Gear Solid a household name. With Physint, this has been put to bed, with not just hope but confirmation that Kojima is returning to his roots.
In other words, Physint is lining up to spell Kojima’s return to what he does best, which, for anyone who played his acclaimed Metal Gear Solid series throughout the 90s and 2000s, is exciting news—especially considering the advancements in both technology and game design since then.
