When is the Persona 5 Tactica release date? Joker and his gang are back with a new spinoff, one based on tactics combat. Steal hearts and take out shadows once more with new allies and foes.

Developed by Atlus and P-Studio, check if Persona 5 Tactica is on Game Pass. With a cartoonish style unlike the earlier game, the new tactics title brings some new tweaks to the franchise. Expect tactics-based combat that retains what makes Persona special.

When is the Persona 5 Tactica release date?

Persona 5 Tactica releases on Friday, November 17, 2023 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Nintendo Switch. The final release date was revealed during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase in 2023.

The first trailer showed off the Phantom Thieves, the band of Persona wielders from Persona 5. Expect even more characters in the game. Some Persona 5 Tactica pre-order bonuses even offer extra Personas and game modes. Check out the following trailer for a quick look at the game.

Watch the latest Persona 5 Tactica trailers

The first gameplay trailer showed off some of the Phantom Thieves you will meet. The character spotlight shows off one of the new characters from the game. Erina, the purple-haired girl, is one of many new allies. Joker and Morgana are back with their friends as well. The game takes place across multiple locales that range from feudal-age Japan and a European city. Café Leblanc is also back from Persona 5.

The gameplay trailers show off the grid-based combat system. You also learn more about the All-Out Attack that returns from previous Persona titles. Cover mechanics are also present in the game. While the game promises tactical decision-making, I wouldn’t expect it to be as punishing as games like XCOM 2.

Persona 5 Tactica gameplay explained

While Persona 5 Tactica is turn-based like earlier games, battles now take place on a grid. This makes positioning important. Hiding behind cover improves your survival odds greatly. And catching unsuspecting foes outside cover lets you deal more damage. You can pick three characters from a roster of familiar faces. This lets you mix and match powers for the perfect synergies.

Taking part in fights gives you growth points that can be used to improve characters. There are social elements in the game too. This is still a Persona game, after all. There’s a unique voltage mechanic too that fills a bar via damage taken or dealt. Fill it up and you gain access to unique skills. For instance, Joker can fight enemies while guarding with his unique Phantom Judge skill. Morgana’s unique Winds of Time is a large area-of-effect damage dealer. And Erina’s Flag of Freedom turns enemies vulnerable while healing friendly characters.

Catch up on the Persona 5 Tactica story

The events of Persona 5 Tactica happen sometime between Persona 5 Royal and Persona 5 Strikers. And if you’re wondering if Akechi is in the game, he’s a part of the Repaint Your Heart DLC. While our Phantom Thieves were responsible for stealing hearts from criminals in the base game, things are a little different in Tactica.

They’re quickly taken to the Kingdom that’s under the tyrannic rule of a leader named Marie. You team up with the Rebel Corps, led by Erina, to fight this menace. The Phantom Thieves are saved by Erina when Marie’s Legionnaire soldiers attack. Eager to return the favor, expect them to wage a war and win.

Marie’s brainwashing powers are a cause for concern, though. One of the trailers showed allies Ryuji and Haru posing in front of the Kingdom’s flag. This might also tie into the game, unlocking former allies by clearing them of their brainwashing. I hope the narrative gets deeper than that though. The franchise is known for strong messages and I hope Tactica has one.

That covers the Persona 5 Tactica release date. Stay tuned for more information as we near its launch. Players across the globe are excited to steal hearts once more and I can’t wait to try the combat system soon. The Persona franchise is known for bizarre spinoffs and Tactica looks to continue that tradition.
