  • To resolve it, turn off crossplay and On-Demand Texture Streaming, use an Ethernet cable, contact support, or reboot the game.

Despite the arrival of Season 4, many players still face the packet burst error. It’s plagued some users right from the MW3 beta but there are several fixes you can use to mitigate this issue. Here’s what you need to know about the error and how to fix it.

How to fix the Packet Burst error

The packet burst error is a server issue that can cause stuttering and lagging throughout the game. It can also be caused by an unsteady internet connection. Another issue that usually pops up with this error is Packet Loss, resulting in delayed inputs. Here are some effective solutions you can use to fix this:

  • Turn off crossplay
  • Switch off On-Demand Texture Streaming
  • Use an Ethernet cable
  • Contact Activision support
  • Reboot the game

Turn off crossplay

For console players, we suggest turning off crossplay, a feature that allows you to play with users on other platforms. This step has been effective for Modern Warfare 3 players who were encountering the packet burst problem. Here’s how you can turn crossplay off on consoles:

  • On PlayStation 4 and 5, head to Settings and pick ‘Account and Network’.
  • Here, you can disable crossplay under the Online tab.
  • For Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, head to Settings and then ‘Account’.
  • Then head over to ‘Privacy and online safety’ and select ‘Xbox privacy’.
  • After that, go to ‘View details and customize’ and pick ‘Communication and multiplayer’. You’ll be able to disable crossplay here.

Switch off On-Demand Texture Streaming

On-Demand Texture Streaming lets you stream higher-resolution textures to enhance the game’s visual quality. However, activating this feature can sometimes lead to packet bursts and in-game lag. THis is because it affects your internet bandwidth. Follow these steps to turn it off:

  • Tap the Options button on your controller.
  • Then go to the Settings menu and scroll down to Graphics.
  • Turn off ‘On-Demand Texture Streaming’.

Use an Ethernet cable

Playing on a Wi-Fi connection can make you more vulnerable to packet burst errors. Slow wireless connections may experience interruptions during intense matches. If possible, consider using an Ethernet cable for your PC or console. A stable internet connection will help you lower the odds of facing the packet burst error. If you’re unable to switch to an Ethernet cable, consider turning off your router for a few minutes and turning it back on again to solve the issue. You can also try port forwarding by assigning a static IP to your device and forwarding on this IP.

Contact Activision support

If you’re facing the packet burst error even when the game servers are running smoothly, the final course of action is to reach out to Activision support. To do so, visit the Activision Support website, where you’ll find solutions for troubleshooting guidance and the option to request assistance. The website offers different support channels, including live chat, phone, and email support.

Reboot the game

Rebooting the game is a highly effective solution for addressing the packet burst issue. It refreshes your connection with the game servers and is likely to resolve any network issues your PC or console may be experiencing. Reinstalling the Call of Duty can help as well.
