Want to learn how to taunt in Mortal Kombat 1? NetherRealm Studios’ historic fighting game franchise arguably wouldn’t be as provocative as it is without the ability to taunt your opponent. Luckily, the developer’s installment has just that, so you can showboat whenever you’re dominating your unfortunate enemy.

But since taunting isn’t exactly a part of the game’s fundamentals, players are often left figuring out how to do it independently. Luckily, we’re here to make the process easier by showing you how to taunt in MK1. If you’re a good sport, though, and you want to play the game without grandstanding, then check out our Mortal Kombat 1 Sub-Zero guide instead.

How do you taunt in Mortal Kombat 1?

To taunt in Mortal Kombat 1, you will need to press the down button four times in quick succession. The button combination is the same across all platforms MK1 is available on, including the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Once you’ve pressed it correctly, your character will perform a provocative move that could goad your enemy into attacking.

Remember, though, that you cannot cancel this action, which means you’re also opening yourself up for a deadly combo as soon as it starts. With this in mind, we recommend only attempting this once you’ve won the match and the announcer has told you to “finish him” so your opponent can’t capitalize. It’s also worth noting that each character’s taunt varies, meaning you won’t see the same action performed if you attempt it with a different fighter.
