  • Use this stance by aiming while sliding or by pressing down on the D-Pad after aiming.

  • To secure kills with this stance for camo challenges, rely on the right attachments, equipment, and hardcore mode.

The latest Modern Warfare game offers a special stance that allows you to hold your gun differently for better results than firing from the hip or from aiming down-sights. The Tac Stance grants more accuracy than hip-fire shots and can be used with all of MW3’s guns. Here’s how you can use it to improve your effectiveness in-game.

What is Tactical Stance?

Tactical Stance, or Tac Stance, is a new aiming stance that has you hold your weapon sideways while making the crosshair smaller. It reduces the spread of the regular bullet spray of hipfire while improving your mobility compared to the ADS view. By default, you can activate this while sliding or by pressing down on the D-Pad after aiming with the left trigger. The view is similar to the canted iron sights view from previous Call of Duty titles.

This move can be used with almost all the weapons in the game. In Tac Stance, the gun is held at an angle and the crosshair is tighter. It’s described by Activision as the perfect middle ground and we agree. It’s useful for close-range and mid-range firing while still being mobile enough to get away if needed.

How to change Tactical Stance settings

You can change these settings in the Combat Behaviours menu under the Gameplay tab. Here are all the Tactical Stance Activation options in the game:

  • Off
  • ADS + Sprint (left trigger and clicking in the left stick by default)
  • ADS + Melee (left trigger and clicking in the right stick by default)
  • ADS + Down Button (left trigger and down on the D-Pad by default)
  • Double-tap ADS (left trigger twice by default)

Double-tapping the Left Trigger is the most natural way to activate Tac Stance, as you don’t have to use any other buttons. It’s just a simple two clicks. However, use whatever option is best for you. You can also turn the stance off completely if you wish. Here are the Tactical Stance Behavior options:

  • Enabled until disabled (toggle)
  • On Respawn (until your next death)
  • Once (until you stop aiming)
✓ isa’s remark

Tac Stance in MW3 is the golden child of agility and accuracy. It gives you faster movement than ADS while tightening your hip-fire spread, making it ideal for pivoting, flanking, and engaging in close-quarter brawls.

How to get tactical stance kills

Defeat enemies in Tac Stance to rack up tactical stance kills. These can let you get new camos in the game. Here are our best methods to get more tactical stance kills:

  • Use the right attachments
  • Rely on appropriate equipment
  • Consider hardcore mode
  • Try surprising opponents

Use the right attachments

For instance, the Bruen Bastion Angled Grip improves tactical stance spread. So watch out for other barrels, underbarrels, and lasers that help with stats. The S-37C DL Breacher muzzle is another good pick for aggressive plays.

Rely on appropriate equipment

The Infantry vest and Stun Grenades can help too, especially since the latter slows the enemy. Consider going stealthy with the Covert Sneakers as well. While Tac Stance doesn’t impact mobility much, it’s best used in slides towards the enemy to challenge them.

Consider hardcore mode

Opt for hardcore modes with lower player health to secure tactical stance kills easily. Rust, Scrapyard, and Terminal are good maps to pick thanks to how dense they can be with enemy players. The wider field of view offered by Tac Stance will enhance your situational awareness and let you spot enemies who might have given you the slip had you been aiming down your sights.

Try surprising opponents

Be it peeking at an enemy from tight corners or pushing an enemy to a closed space, Tac Stance is pretty helpful when either of you is caught off-guard. This is especially true at medium range as you might not have to switch to ADS while taking them down. Based on your attachments, aiming down your sights might be slow (especially with a high-magnification scope), meaning that Tac Stance can serve as a quicker alternative.
