Can you save your game in MW3

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 features an autosave feature that saves at specific checkpoints in the game. While this is helpful in some missions, the new open combat missions do not have this option. But whenever you fail, you can start over with a loadout of weapons you had scavenged from that specific mission.

I found out the hard way when I lost right before completing an open combat mission on the Hardened difficulty. My player was booted back to the beginning of the level and I had to start over. Sure, the levels themselves are small. But doing it all over again is not a pleasant experience. I imagine the surprise would have hit harder if I was on the Veteran difficulty.

How to replace save game data in MW3

Some players have reported being able to replace their saved game in Modern Warfare 3. But since progress is tied to your Activision account, there’s a good chance this option will not work. PC players can try this to finish the full game and earn rewards. Here’s where you can expect to find the save game data of MW3:

  • Steam client and Battle.net users can head to C:\Users\Username\Documents\Call of Duty\players\NumberString
  • This location will have your autosaves and save game files. You’ll also spot player config files that have your inputs and graphics settings. Always back them up before replacing them with new ones.
