Unlocking Gold Items

Now let’s take a look at how to go about unlocking each of these Gold decorations. Note that you do not need to follow any specific order and can unlock whichever you like first.

Gold Skin

This Skin is exclusive to Metal Mario and is a replacement skin for him. The skin does not provide any stat boosts and is just a decoration to show off your prestige.

You must get Gold Trophies in all the 200cc Grand Prix cups to unlock the Gold Skin. The 200cc races are some of the most challenging in the game, and you should practice the tracks to get a good idea of how to master them.

Gold Wheels

The Gold Wheels provide some solid all-around stats that make them worth unlocking besides the prestige.

To unlock the Gold Wheels, you must defeat all the Staff Ghosts in all the 150cc Time Trials.

Gold Standard Kart

The Gold Standard Kart provides different stats from the usual Karts. To unlock it, you must complete up to the 150cc cups and the Mirror Mode races with at least one star.

Note that completing a 150cc cup automatically completes the 50cc and 100cc versions for it, so you don’t need to go back and complete all of them to unlock the Gold Standard Kart.

Gold Glider

The Gold Glider has the simplest unlock requirements. You just need to collect 5000 Gold Coins to unlock the Gold Glider. However, if you are on the Wii U, you must collect 10,000 Gold Coins.

Note that the Gold Glider does not provide any stat boosts, so it’s just an accessory to flex your achievements.
