Players that haven’t played the Mario Kart games in years might find themselves lost when picking up Mario Kart 8. While, yes, it’s easy to play the game, mastering it is a completely different story.

The reason for this is that the game has different builds, which consist of vehicles, tires, and gliders that all affect the individual statistics of your character. The statistics that can be altered by using builds are

  • Speed: Definitely the most straight forward stat. The higher your speed, the faster you’ll go.
  • Acceleration: Determines how quickly you reach your top speed.
  • Weight: Decides whether you’ll knock an enemy kart away or if you’ll be the one going flying.
  • Handling: Most important stat for drifting and taking sharp turns.
  • Traction/Grip: determines how well your kart will drive off road.

Although what character you use is important, it’s the build you use that really decides how well you’ll be performing, and the same applies to characters such as Yoshi, who we’ll be giving the best setup (or build) for

Kart: Standard Bike

As the age old saying goes, if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. That’s exactly the case with Yoshi and the standard bike, a combo that has probably been around for as long as the saying we mentioned has.

Although all the stats of the standard bike are more than acceptable, it’s the speed stat that could use some more work. Fortunately, that can be made up for when constructing the rest of the build for our favorite green dinosaur.

Tires: Retro Off Road Tires

The Retro Off Road tires equipped on the standard bike allow you to make sharper turns and recover from shells quickly, regardless of whether you’re on road or not.

The biggest advantage of these tires, at least when it comes to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, is that they increase the water speed, ground speed, weight, and traction stats, which make them some of the best tires to use on tracks that feature a lot of off road action.

However, they also decrease the overall acceleration, ground handling, water handling, anti-gravity handling, and mini turbo stats, which means that while your Yoshi will be faster, you’ll have to work harder to ensure his kart goes straight.

Glider: Super Glider/Waddle Wing Glider

For Yoshi’s glider, it’s best to choose one that offers no special stat boosts to the character. The reason for this is that every glider either does nothing, decreases speed, or decreases traction.

Seeing as how the standard bike we selected already has a problem with speed, and the retro off road tires already reduce how well the kart’s ground handling, water handling, and anti gravity handling is, the best action is to go for the glider that looks the best.

Final Thoughts

That was the best Mario Kart 8 Yoshi setup/build. Of course, some players might argue that we should have selected a different kart or different tires, but at the end of the day, that’s the entire beauty of Mario Kart. Everyone’s experiences, likes, and dislikes are completely different, and that’s how it should be.
