Mario Kart 8 is one of those games that’s easy to pick but hard to master, and a big part of that is knowing how to choose your kart. With your stats changing depending on the character, kart, wheels and glider you choose, you need to strike a balance that will help you go fast without losing control around corners.
So if you’re a fan of Yoshi and want to know what the ideal setup for them is, then we’ve put together our picks for the combo you should be using. This combo will be useful in any difficulty, but we especially recommend it for 150cc thanks to its great stat spread making it a strong all-round choice.

Kart: Standard Bike
As the age old saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That’s exactly the case with Yoshi and the standard bike, a combo that has probably been around for as long as that saying.
As the name suggests, the stats of this bike are pretty standard, meaning it might not be the fastest in the game, but it makes up for this with some decent handling and acceleration. As for the other important stats, we’ll remedy those with our Tire choice.
Tires: Retro Off Road Tires
The Retro Off Road tires equipped on the standard bike allow you to make sharper turns and recover from shells quickly, regardless of whether you’re on road or not.
The biggest advantage of these tires, at least when it comes to Mario Kart 8, is that they increase the water speed, ground speed, weight, and traction stats, which make them some of the best tires to use on tracks that feature a lot of off road action.
However, they also decrease the overall acceleration, ground handling, water handling, anti-gravity handling, and mini turbo stats, which means that while your Yoshi will be faster, you’ll have to work harder to ensure your kart goes straight, so you may want to use different tires for 200cc.
Glider: Super Glider/Waddle Wing Glider
For Yoshi’s glider, it’s best to choose one that offers no special stat boosts to the character. The reason for this is that every glider either does nothing, decreases speed, or decreases traction.
Seeing as how the standard bike we selected already has a problem with speed, and the retro off road tires already reduce how well the kart’s ground handling, water handling, and anti gravity handling is, the best action is to go for the glider that looks the best.
Of course, the best bike for Yoshi is the one that works best for you. If you’ve tried out this combo and feel like it needs a bit of tinkering, try swapping to a different set of Tires to see if that suits your playstyle better.
