- Use four fully upgraded archers
- Unlock Soh’s Punishing Strike skill
- Aim for perfect parries to stun Kamaitachi
After the relatively easy confrontation with Gakinyudo in Myoko Pass, Soh and his gang of villagers are thrown into the deep end as they take on Kamaitachi. Kakeashi Grove’s boss is a flying Seethe, meaning ground attacks aren’t as useful, so some lateral thinking and plenty of archers are key.
Though beating him is tougher than the first boss, it’s well within the reach of most players at this stage in the game. The real challenge comes with the optional objective to beat the boss in under 1:30 minutes. We’ll walk you through how to do just that.
How to beat Kamaitachi in under 1:30 minutes
Before you go for an attempt, you’ll want to progress far enough that you unlock Soh upgrades. This happens after beating Batsu at Moegi Ridge. Unlock Punishing Strike skill under Soh’s other abilities. If you have the Musubi to spare, get all four Oka Form upgrades. These aren’t as vital, but still useful.
Alongside, you’ll want to fully upgrade your archers so that they have the Health Increase 1, Attack Power 1, Incendiary Shot, Health Increase 2, Attack Power 2, and Double Shot upgrades.
Next, you’ll want to equip the following Mazo Talismans:
- Deva – Slightly increases Soh’s Attack power.
- Soultaker – Greatly increases the damage of Soh’s first attack each night.
- Leaping Fish – Slightly increases Soh’s maximum health.
As for Tsuba Guards, go for Suzaku’s Flame for its Resist Gauge depleting properties and solid against Kamaitachi. Set Soh’s fighting style to Oka Dance.
Villager roles and setup
Four archers is the way to go here, mainly because Kamaitachi is a flying-type Seethe and the Incendiary Shot and Double Shot attacks will help eat into the Resist Gauge fast. Place two archers on the platform on the left, and two on the one on the right-hand side like in the image above. Try to position them as forward as possible towards the gate where the boss spawns to ensure they’re in range from the very start.
Strategy
As soon as Kamaitachi spawns, get in there and unleash one or two X+Y jumping Dance Attacks. Along with the volley of arrows from the archers, the boss should get stunned and fall to the ground. If it doesn’t, wait a moment for its first slash attack and parry it just as it’s about to hit Soh. Parrying is extremely crucial to the fight.
When Kamaitachi hits the ground, rush in and use Suzaku’s Flame to deplete the Resist Gauge. Chain a few Dance or Oka attacks, then follow these up with Punishing Strike by holding down Y when the red cycle appears on the boss. This should take the boss down to around half health.
Kamaitachi will return to the air. Repeat the same process, using jumping Dance Attacks and parrying to stun him again. Your archers will also help. When he hits the deck, spam Oka Form attacks or Dance Attacks repeatedly to eat away at its health bar. At this point, the boss will summon in standard Seethe. Ignore them. The idea is to kill it before the others can damage Yoshiro. Watch out for Kamaitachi‘s unblockable attack as well and dodge out of the way to avoid it.
From here, you essentially want to repeat the same process of getting Kamaitachi to go to the ground as often as possible. The boss will also tether to the ground after its unblockable attack, low enough for you to rush in with ground attacks and for your archers to pelt him.
It’s tight, but if you avoid most of the boss’ attacks and land your parries, you should just about defeat Kamaitachi in under 1:30 minutes, with possibly a few seconds to spare. If you feel you’re a little off during an attempt, you can restart the fight at any moment from the pause menu. For you’re trouble, you’ll get the Mokugyo Daruma Talisman, which increases the recovery speed of the Guard Gauge.
