Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has no shortage of fun encounters. Various NPCs are there for flavour, yet some offer more than just a bit of worldbuilding. For instance, whenever you use fast travel to get between locations, there’s a chance to get a random encounter. One of them involves Riddler Barley, a cooky fellow who likes to pose riddles and bet on them. If you’re stumped for answers, we got you covered.
Where to find Riddler Barley?
Riddler Barley has no set location, so meeting him is entirely random. The only chance to meet him is while using fast travel over longer distances. Seeing as those chance encounters while travelling are randomized, you’re not guaranteed to meet Barley every time you get one. But when you do, make sure to speak with him and ask for a riddle, which is when he proposes his wager.
All answers for Riddler Barley’s riddles
Each time you meet Riddler Barly, you’ll have an opportunity to wager (barring the first one) and answer his riddles. However, you can only get one riddle per encounter, meaning that you’ll need multiple encounters to get them all.
First riddle answer
Question | Correct answer |
---|---|
What belongs to you alone, but is used more often by others? | My Name |
The first riddle is a freebie and fairly simple. The other offered answers are clearly bogus, making it an easy answer – you’ll rarely use your own name compared to others, yet it’s yours alone. Getting the correct answer will reward you with a choice between 150 Groschen or a random skill XP increase.
Second riddle answer
Question | Correct answer |
---|---|
Once upon a time, there was a fool of a farmer. Family, he had none, no stable boys either, so he talked to his animals instead. And, good man that he was, whenever he made a Groschen or two, he shared it with them according to his own rules. Every hen in the coop was paid five, every bee in the hive 15, and the spider in the loft bagged a full twenty Groshen. And now you tell me, how much did the cat get? | 10 |
The second riddle requires a wager of 100 Groschen before the question is posed. It’s a math question and more complex than the first one. The solution is to deduce the farmer’s rules and the clue is in the animals and how much they got. His “rule”, it turns out, is to pay each animal 2.5 Groschen based on their number of legs – hens have 2, thus get 5; bees have 6, thus get 15, and spiders have 8, thus get 20. Lastly, the cat has 4 and thus gets 10, which is the correct answer. By solving the riddle, you’ll be rewarded with either 200 Groschen or a random skill XP increase.
Third riddle answer
Question | Correct answer |
---|---|
Jaromir the coachman hailed from Raborsch. One morning, he set off for Kuttenberg with an empty coach. Three boys boarded in Bohunowitz. When he arrived in Bojscht, one of the boys got out and a washerwoman took his place. In Horschan, the washerwoman went on her way and a pedlar and his daughter boarded. In Pschitoky, the remaining lads alighted and took the pedlar’s daughter with them. And straight away, two fishermen got in. And on reaching Kuttenberg that evening, they invited the coachman to the bathhouse and got pig-drunk. And now you tell me, what was the coachman’s name? | Jaromir |
The third riddle requires that you wager 150 Groschen before getting the question. This one is less of a riddle and more of a memory and attention game. The answer is provided right at the beginning – “Jaromir the coachman hailed from Raborsch.” So after the long-winded story of the passengers’ escapades, all you have to do is recall the beginning, and the answer is there, Jaromir. For getting it right, you’ll be rewarded with either 300 Groschen or a random skill XP increase.
Fourth riddle answer
Question | Correct answer |
---|---|
A bailiff has twelve men join up for service one day. The bailiff was glad, but soon discovered that he didn’t have enough gear for them in the armory. So those twelve men filed onto the square for the next morning’s roll call. Six of them were wearing body armor, four had helmets. Only three of them wore both a helmet and body armor. Now, tell me, how many men were unlucky enough not to have either a helmet or armor? | Five |
The fourth riddle once again requires that you wager 150 Groschen before getting the riddle. This is another math and deduction riddle, so let’s break it down. We start with 12 recruits, with 6 getting armour and 4 getting helmets, yet only 3 getting the full set. That leaves 4 pieces of gear (1 helmet and 3 armour) spread around the rest, resulting in 5 who get nothing. For solving this riddle, you’ll once again be rewarded with either 300 Groschen or a random skill XP increase.
Should you take Groschen or Knowledge as a reward?
As we mentioned above, you will get a choice between two rewards for each riddle. Barley states that he’s broke, but will give you whatever’s in his purse. On the other hand, he can teach you some of the knowledge he has gathered on the road.
We would argue that the best choice is to ask for knowledge. No matter which skill you get, it will be very useful as the game progresses and opportunities to learn more become scarce. Groschen can be farmed more readily at any stage of the game, so the paltry sums that Barley offers are far less desirable than permanent skill progression.
