A green dye is by far the hardest dye to obtain in Minecraft due to the limited crafting recipes. If you’re lucky enough to find a desert biome, then it’s not a big deal. In this article, we’ll go over all the methods and guide you on how to make green dye in Minecraft!

3 Steps to make Green Dye in Minecraft

Not like any other dyes in Minecraft where you can use flowers to craft, you can only make green dye using cactus. Here’s how!

#1 Make a Furnace

A furnace is a common functional block in Minecraft that can be used to smelt many blocks and ores. To craft one, you just need 8 cobblestones, cobbled deepslates, or Blackstone.

You will need a pickaxe of any tier to mine those 3 blocks. And when you have a total of 8 of them, follow the recipe below.

#2 Find some Cactus

Cactus is a green and renewable block in Minecraft that can be mostly found in the desert and badlands biome. It’s recommended to look for a desert biome instead since it’s more common and the desert biome has double cactus compared to the badlands biome.

Cactus blocks can spawn in 3 different variants or heights. Most of the time, you can only see the natural cactus with 1 block height, 27% of it will spawn with 2 block height, and 11% with 3 block height. You can break the cactus with your bare hand so no special tools are required.

You can also find cacti in a pot in igloos and in desert village structures. The igloo is an uncommon structure generated in snowy biomes. And the chests in the desert village can contain randomly 1-4 blocks of cactus.

If you’re super lucky, you may come across the wandering trader with the cactus trade. They sell 1 cactus for 3 emeralds.

#3 Smelt the Cactus

When you have a furnace and some cactus, put the cactus in the top slot in the furnace. Then put some fuel items into the bottom slot and wait. Each cactus block will give you 1 green dye.

Other Ways to Obtain Green Dye in Minecraft

#1 Find Green Dye in Village’s Chests

Chests in the desert village have a small chance to contain one green dye. So if you only need just one and run into a desert village, you can use this method.

#2 Trading with Wandering Traders

Another efficient way to farm green dye in a large amount is to trade with the wandering trader. They sell 3 green dyes for only 1 emerald. So as long as you have a villager trading hall setup, it’s all good!
