How to build a Disney Lorcana deck – deck building rules
First thing’s first, there’s a few different rules for building how to build your Disney Lorcana deck. Regardless of whether you’re playing 1v1 or multiplayer, the rules are the same. Here are the rules to follow for building your Lorcana deck.
- A deck must contain a minimum of 60 cards.
- A deck cannot contain more than four copies of any card.
- For character cards, this applies to uniquely named cards. For example, if you have four copies of Elsa – Spirit of Winter in your deck, you can also have four copies of Elsa – Snow Queen, or any other Elsa cards.
- A deck can only contain one or two ink types.
Thankfully, these rules are pretty standard in terms of deck building restrictions, so adhering to them shouldn’t be to big of a deal. So now, with these rules in mind, let’s get into actually building a deck.
How to build a Disney Lorcana deck – picking your ink
First off, let’s talk ink. As we mentioned in the rules section, decks can only contain one or two ink types. What does that mean? There are six ink types, Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, and Steel. These are the different colors that the cards show in the card name area. So this means that you can play only one or two colors in your deck. So how do we go about picking which ink types that we want for our deck?
Well, there are a couple of ways to go about this. First, you could pick a common trading card game archetype, such as aggro, control, or ramp. Then you would need to look for cards in the different ink types that would fit the archetype. This has the benefit that you can quickly identify cards that’d work in your deck, but you may have to decide between more than two ink types for the deck.
The other way to build a deck is to pick a character card or two from different ink types, and build around them. By going doing this, you can focus on the theme on the character that you pick, and find cards that work well with them. Either way that you decide, this is the start of things.
Choosing cards
Once you’ve picked your ink types, the next thing to do is start filling in the rest of the deck. One thing that you’re going to want to remember when you’re building out your deck is that Disney Lorcana is a character focused game. A lot of the time, you’re going to have a fair amount of characters in your deck. So if you’re used to playing a control deck in other games like Magic: the Gathering that doesn’t have very many creatures, you’re going to find that the characters in this game have a lot of the typical effects that you’d find in typical control decks.
There are some exceptions to this though. For example, there are combo decks that utilize items more than characters to win, but they still have roughly 1/3 of the deck as character cards. One thing that you’ll also need to consider is having enough cards in your deck that can be played as ink. Since you’re allowed to play an ink every turn, ensuring that you have cards to play as ink is very important. Luckily, a lot of the cards in the game can be played as ink, so that shouldn’t be too hard.
