This free-to-play first-person shooter from Ubisoft features fast-paced action, unique character abilities, and a variety of game modes. The game is available on all major next-gen platforms, including PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Previously, the game was a part of the Tom Clancy universe, but Ubisoft later decided to bring it under the Ubisoft Originals umbrella. Its gameplay focuses on using different factions, each with its own unique set of abilities. These factions are based on characters and groups from other Ubisoft franchises, including Far Cry 6, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, The Division, and Watch Dogs 2. On top of that, you can also find maps that are based on locations from the mentioned franchises.

You’ll be glad to know there are several games out that feature the same elements present in this game, and we’ll go over some of them in this guide. The games we selected are somewhat similar to XDefiant, yet each offers unique features that set them apart.

Modern Warfare 3 is a solid alternative to XDefiant as it comes with character customization and plenty of game modes, including one called Domination, which can also be found in XDefiant. Compared to XDefiant, Modern Warfare 3 boasts a wider map variety and traditional team-based modes. So, if you’re bored with XDefiant’s library of fewer maps, you’ll find plenty of locations for gunfights in Modern Warfare 3. It also focuses on military aesthetics, while XDefiant’s has more of a fictional theme.

The Finals

The Finals throws you into a free-to-play arena where things move at a fast speed. Just like XDefiant, it’s all about quick reflexes, fast thinking, and constant action. But The Finals features a unique twist to keep things interesting. Along with regular game modes, it also has one that focuses on a tournament format. In this mode, winners progress to the next round, while losers get knocked out, just like a real competition.

Overwatch 2

  • Release Date: October 4, 2022
    • – 04 October 2022 (PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch)
  • Platform(s): Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox Series X
  • Genre(s): Action, Shooter

Would you recommend this game?

Overwatch 2 takes a different approach to the FPS genre, with unique heroes that come with different abilities. The game features a class-based system with well-defined roles like tank, support, and damage. XDefiant, on the other hand, focuses on factions, each with its own set of unique abilities. On top of that, Overwatch 2 offers a PvE mode that is not currently available in XDefiant. However, this shouldn’t bother those who are all about defeating real players.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege

  • Release Date: December 1, 2015
  • Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X
  • Genre(s): Action, Shooter

Would you recommend this game?

If you want to know how it feels to rescue a hostage or carefully eliminate a deadly group that has taken over a building, then you should definitely give Rainbow Six Siege a try. This game is not about constant action. Instead, it focuses more on developing tactical strategies to either defend or attack a building. You can use gadgets, barricade walls, use breaching techniques, and much more to stop the opposing team from winning. On top of that, it has a smaller team size compared to XDefiant and is difficult to master, which kind of makes things fun. So, if you want to take a break from the fast-paced theme of XDefiant and try something that offers a slower approach, then jump into Rainbow Six Siege.

Valorant

  • Release Date: June 2, 2020
    • – 02 June 2020 (PC)
  • Platform(s): PC
  • Genre(s): Action, Shooter, Strategy

Valorant, another free-to-play option, features character-based gameplay with unique abilities and a focus on team coordination and objective-based scenarios, much like XDefiant. You can choose from game modes such as Spike Rush, Swiftplay, Deathmatch, and many more. On top of that, it features a round-based format with attacking and defending sides, similar to Counter-Strike. The usage of abilities kind of makes Valorant somewhat similar to XDefiant, but both feature a different style, So, it won’t feel like you’re playing XDefiant all over again.

Ironsight

  • Release Date: 02 February 2018
  • Platform(s): PC
  • Genre(s): First-Person Shooter

Would you recommend this game?

Iron Sight offers a free-to-play shooter experience where you can choose from over 50 weapons, gadgets, tactical drones, and much more. Just like XDefiant, you can participate in objective-based game modes and engage in fast-paced combat. However, Iron Sight features a class-based system with traditional roles like assault, sniper, and support. Unlike XDefiant, which focuses on the abilities of individual characters, Iron Sight leans more toward weapon customization, as there aren’t any unique characters with abilities.

Splitgate

  • Release Date: May 24, 2019
  • Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox Series X
  • Genre(s): Action, First-Person Shooter, Shooter

As its name implies, Splitgate brings a unique twist into the FPS genre with portals. Players can use portals to quickly travel across the map and surprise their opponents, adding an element not present in XDefiant. However, Splitgate offers a smaller selection of maps and characters compared to XDefiant, but the addition of portals might appeal to players who may be looking to try something different from traditional FPS games.
