When Fortnite games come down to the wire, even the smallest advantages can be the difference between winning and losing, and one way to give yourself that tiny edge over your opponents is through stretched resolutions. Not only will it give you a boost to your FPS, but it makes character models wider, making it easier to hit your opponents in matches.
So if you’re interested in trying out a stretched resolution in your game, we’re here to help. We’ll tell you what the best stretched resolutions to use are, as well as going through how to set them up step-by-step – let’s get into it.
How to set up stretched resolution
You can’t actually choose to run stretched resolution in Fortnite itself, but it’s fairly easy to do it yourself. To set up stretched resolution, follow these steps:
- Open the in-game settings and select Fullscreen mode
- Close the game and press Windows + R
- Type in %localappdata% and hit enter
- Head to FortniteGame\Saved\Config\WindowsClient
- Open up GameUserSettings.ini in a text editor and edit the resolution as shown below, replacing the numbers we’ve used with your desired resolution.
- ResolutionSizeX=1280
- ResolutionSizeY=1024
- LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeX=1280
- LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeY=1024
Once you’ve done this, you then need to change certain graphics card settings. Here’s what you need to do, depending on your GPU:
NVidia
- Open the Nvidia Control Panel
- Select ‘Change Resolution’
- Click ‘Create Custom’ and set the desired resolution
- Click ‘Test’
- If there are no errors, click ‘Apply’ to apply the changes
AMD
- Open AMD Radeon Settings
- Head to ‘Display’
- Select ‘Create Custom Resolution’ and set the desired resolution
- Save and then open your Display settings from your desktop
- Select and apply your custom resolution
A stretched resolution might make your game look a little weird when compared to a normal resolution, but if you’re happy to trade that for a slight advantage in your games then it’s worth trying out

That being said, here are our choices for the best stretched resolutions to use in Fortnite:
- 1024 x 768
- 1280 x 960
