With three slots and 17 individual weapons, we’re spoilt for choice in Flintlock when it comes to equipping Nor for her journey through Kian. With that choice comes the opportunity to find a playstyle that works for you and plays to your strengths. But, as with so many games, some weapons are simply better than others.

To save you the hassle of trialling them all (though we do recommend doing just that to sample developer A44’s hard work for yourself), we’ve put together a list of the best weapons. If you’re struggling to get the resources to upgrade them all, check out the best Reputation farming locations we’ve found so far.

Best melee weapons in Flintlock

Here are our picks for the best melee weapons:

Nor’s Axe. Captured by VideoGamer

Nor’s Axe

With you from the beginning of the game, Nor’s Axe is arguably the best sharp melee weapon in Flintlock. It’s a beast in close quarters combat, especially when taking on groups of enemies and has the highest base damage of any melee weapon in the game. To boot, it also deals 10% more damage for every additional hit in every four-hit combo, encouraging an aggressive playstyle.

Judge’s Hammer. Captured by VideoGamer

Judge’s Hammer

Armoured enemies are a pain. The Judge’s Hammer is designed to help with that exact problem, offering armour piercing and penetration to quickly chew through defenses to make enemies vulnerable to standard attacks. Along with solid base damage stats and a combo that throws enemies to the ground on its final hit, the Judge’s Hammer has a charged attack that deals 200% more damage.

Sunderer’s Hammer. Captured by VideoGamer

Sunderer’s Hammer

Enki is far more than a companion; he’s a vital component of your combat arsenal, not least his ability to curse and Prime enemies. The Sunderer’s Hammer synergises with Enki by inflicting Prime on enemies with every standard attack, filling up enemy metres much faster and giving you plenty of opportunities to go in for heavy staggered blows. It also has the same 200% damage charged attack as the Judge’s Hammer.

Best firearms in Flintlock

Here are the best guns in Flintlock:

Skirmisher’s Pistol. Captured by VideoGamer

Skirmisher’s Pistol

Though the Skirmisher’s Pistol’s base damage trails behind Nor’s Pistol and the Marauder’s Pistol, it has a big ol’ ace up its sleeve: it can knock down sprinting, sliding, and airborne enemies. It’s like a souped up parry that works incredibly well against Flintlock’s tougher mobs and bosses. It’s capable of interrupting unblockable red attacks and its Charged Shot dishes out 300% damage. It also comes with 6 Black Powder Charges, giving you far more utility than most other primary firearms.

Marksman’s Musket. Captured by VideoGamer

Marksman’s Musket

Think of the Marksman’s Musket as a sniper rifle but with a Napoleonic twist. It can kill most standard enemies with a headshot thanks to 300% extra damage plus an additional 100% damage for a perfect reload. The base damage is also well up there so even a body shot should chunk through health bars in one or two shots for most non-armoured enemies. Huge stun damage also helps as well. It’s a great option if you’re into clearing out a few enemies from an area before jumping into close quarters combat.

Firespitter. Captured by VideoGamer

Firespitter

The Firespitter is more fun than having a truly viable combat application. It spews an uninterrupted steady stream of fire that burns enemies. No reloading, just pure fiery damage. Think of it as a primitive flamethrower. Enemies caught in the stream are more or less immobilised giving it some useful crowd control abilities. It’s a tad gimmicky, but it never gets hold.

Best grenades in Flintlock

Here are the best grenades to equip:

Ripper Grenade. Captured by VideoGamer

Ripper Grenade

We’re fond of the Ripper Grenade because it discharges base damage thanks to an 80-piece armour-piercing shrapnel explosion, but also inflicts bleed. This means you’re dealing damage passively long after the grenade’s bang. It’s a much more useful alternative to the standard Blast Grenade in our opinion.

Shock Grenade. Captured by VideoGamer

Shock Grenade

Prime is the most OP mechanic in Flintlock and the Shock Grenade helps you tap into it even more. It discharges a 5-metre electrical burst that builds up Prime on enemies but also knocks them down. Ally it to Enki swooping in with curse attacks and the results get pretty silly. It also has a big old stun effect, so is an ideal way to get some breathing space to manoeuvre out of a tight spot.
