After Gamescom we have now had a much better look at the upcoming Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn from Ashen developers A44.

From what we have seen so far, the easy comparison to make for Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn are the ‘Souls’ games. As it also appears to be a challenging RPG, not for the light-hearted.

Latest news, updates and more

In Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn you will play as protagonist Nor Vanek, on her quest to take down the gods. You will take on the foes with a Flintlock, magic and a tomahawk – as well as her fox-like companion Enki, who you can also control in combat.

This project shows plenty of ambition, keeping the sensibilities from other games of this genre, but still building on them. The in-game currency will be called ‘Reputation’ and it will be dropped and left everytime you die.

Although this is pretty much standard for this kind of game, what’s unique in Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is you gain XP as an alternative currency – to upgrade with – and it is used to level up the characters skill tree.

Game director, Derek Bradley, has stated how he wants Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn to push this genre forward in the same way the critically acclaimed Elden Ring has. This is a bold claim, but if it can be pulled off by A44, then this will truly be one to watch for the future and a landmark game for the genre.

It appears as though they will achieve this through the way the world, and the people in it, respond to the character. They will advance alongside your character and the story, offering side quests for the player in the open world and interesting story beats.

Side quests will be linked to other aspects of the game – they will have influence over enemy encounters, dungeon discovery as well as the bosses you will meet.

When does Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn release?

So far we do not have a concrete release date for Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, but it is currently expected to release in Q1 of 2023.

Although we don’t know exactly when, it appears it won’t be long until we can experience it for ourselves, and see if it really does live up to the promise.

What platforms will Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn be on?

According to the A44 website, we can expect Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn on pretty much all platforms.

However, the most enticing part of the release is that it will be releasing day one on Xbox Game Pass.

Here is a list below of all the platforms we are currently expecting to see Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn appear on:

  • Xbox One
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PlayStation 4
  • PlayStation 5
  • Steam
  • Epic Games Store

How much will Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn cost?

There is still now information regarding just how much Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is going to cost at launch. If you play on Xbox you will be able to play the game day one with Game Pass, as long as you have a subscription, but otherwise we are currently unsure about the price range.

A44’s previous game, Ashen, was £39.99/$39.99 at launch, but this was prior to the release of the new console generations. Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn also seems much grander in scale from everything we have seen so far, so it may cost more, but we will have to wait and see.
