No, Dynasty Warriors Origins has been described as a purely single player experience since it was first announced back at the PlayStation Showcase in May 2024. When the game releases on January 17, 2025, it won’t include any multiplayer modes nor is there the option to play through the campaign in split-screen co-op alongside a friend.

The reasoning behind eschewing multiplayer is linked to Omega Force wanting to dive deeper into the story side of things, opting to focus on the first half of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms source material. As explained in an interview with TheGamer, director Tomohiko Sho is aiming for a more ‘thorough and intense’ brand of storytelling seemingly at the expense of the pick-up-and-go appeal of the series’ signature split-screen and multiplayer elements.

As disappointing as the lack of release day multiplayer is, that doesn’t mean it won’t arrive later down the line. Dynasty Warriors 9 launched without a multiplayer component, only for one to arrive 8 months later, specifically online and offline co-op. Better late than never.
