This is why deciding what form your team of champions will take may pose a challenge, especially for those overwhelmed by the sheer breadth of choice.

Creating your dream team may feel intimidating. However, you can find a route to success by following our lovingly curated guide. You’ll start by forging Bonds with as wide a variety of digimon as possible. We don’t just mean this figuratively; Bonds are a crucial mechanic in Digimon Time Stranger. We’ll then show you how to boost your Digimon’s stats and how to build a top-tier Digimon team.

How to boost your Digimon’s stats

You can recruit new Digimon by defeating them in battle a set number of times before materialising your own allied version of the defeated ‘mon. To have the strongest versions of these digimon on your side, it’s best to materialise them when their scan rate reaches 200%. This means they’ll reach the conditions for evolution faster, making it even easier to go through the evolution and de-evolution process.

Digivolving and de-digivolving your party members into other Digimon of your choice is the easiest way to boost their stats. You’ll want to make the most out of this process, both to raise their stats and to explore their evolution options.

For instance, you may evolve a Patamon into an Angemon, then you decide you want it to turn back to a Patamon again. This provides Patamon with increased stats and helps give you a better view of all the possible evolutions available to your companion. This is especially useful if you take your pal of choice down a different evolution path or, in the case of our hypothetical Patamon, wish to evolve it into an even stronger Angemon.

What’s more, many powerful and iconic Digivolutions have certain stat requirements. This means you’ll have very specific stat goals to aim for if you’re searching for a classic powerhouse like Wargreymon or Gallantmon.

On top of this, every Digimon has a Bond level, which affects the stat increases they take with them when they Digivolve or de-Digivolve. To raise Bond, you’ll need to either have your Digimon of choice fight for you directly in battles, or you’ll need to feed them food in the Digifarm.

Returning in Digimon Story Time Stranger, the Digifarm provides even more utility than it did in the title’s predecessor, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth. Leaving your Digimon in this cozy virtual daycare not only increases your Digimon’s stats but also assists in changing their personality types. More on those below.

Digimon types

In Digimon Story Time Stranger, each Digimon has a personality type. This provides additional skills, meaning each of your team members’ individual quirks can become a major asset in battles. A Demidevimon, for example, would likely be best with a strategic personality. Not only would this give your pal access to Magical Wisdom, a passive ability that reduces SP cost for magic attacks, but it’ll also help them develop their INT and SPI stats – both vital for powerful spellcasting and healing.

Personality can be influenced both by training your Digimon in the Digifarm or by talking to your party in the overworld. These traits also influence stat growth for your Digimon, meaning that, by cultivating the correct bonds, you’ll be able to grow the exact stats you need for the Digivolution you’re chasing.  Here’s a list of all the different personalities, as well as their overarching personality category and the two stats that they help develop.

This means the bonds you form with your digimon are vital to creating your ideal team. Speaking to your party outside of battle and judging how your responses to them will shift their personality is the key to making them the best team possible. By encouraging each team member to take on the personality that complements their abilities and attributes, any Digimon you want to have on your side can become an absolute terror in battle with the correct training.

As you advance through the story, you’ll also gain access to Agent Skills. These can provide powerful, blanket buffs for Digimon of an entire personality category in Digimon Story Time Stranger. These include significant stat bonuses and even experience boosts. If you find yourself specialising in a particular cluster of personality types, be sure to prioritise unlocking the Agent Skills that will benefit you the most.

How to approach Digimon team composition

You’ll begin with either Patamon, Gomamon, or Demidevimon, three iconic rookie Digimon. From here, you can build your team as you see fit. We recommend a healthy mix of Virus, Vaccine, and Data-type Digimon. This will give access to every point on Digimon Story Time Stranger’s rock-paper-scissors style elemental triangle.

We recommend collecting new Digimon in Digimon Story Time Stranger as early as the Shinjuku underground, one of the first areas of the game. Here, you can easily encounter Digimon who will eventually grow into powerful allies.

This includes Lopmon, who offers plenty of evolution paths and can evolve into powerful endgame monsters like Cherubimon and Dianamon, two of the toughest customers in Digimon Story Time Stranger. For a more streamlined yet reliable option, Dracomon has some evolution requirements and can evolve into strong players like Vandemon.

That said, to have a truly top-tier team, you’ll need to craft a squad with carefully chosen personality traits, optimised to help you get the stats you need for the most powerful Digivolutions in any given Digimon’s evolution tree.

By taking into account your team’s characteristics and interacting with them accordingly, the rest will fall into place. This makes creating a team of the strongest versions of your favourite Digimon easier and more rewarding than before.
