What are Legendary Marks in Destiny: The Taken King?

Legendary Marks are a new form of currency in Destiny 2.0. Legendary Marks are needed to purchase new Legendary gear from vendors. You also need Legendary Marks to re-purchase Year One weapons and armour with upgraded stats to reflect the 2.0 update, and have that weapon be as effective in battle as the new gear.

Certain weapons will require Legendary Marks in order to be Infused, which consumes a materials to boost the overall value of the equipment, which further boosts your Light level.

New Legendary Gear can be very expensive, costing upwards of 175 Legendary Marks, and as things stand, the payouts of Legendary Marks aren’t too high.

How do I earn Legendary Marks in Destiny?

Legendary Marks cannot be earned until you hit the new level 40 cap. Once you’ve reached level 40, a bunch of opportunities to earn Legendary Marks will become available to you, these include:

  • Vanguard Heroic Strikes – Vanguard Heroic Strikes offer 10 Legendary Marks, as well as a Legendary Engram and experience. The Strikes are level 41, with a recommend Light of 260, so expect a tough task ahead.
  • Daily Heroic Story – The Daily Heroic Story rewards 15 Legendary Marks for completion. The Daily Heroic is a Level 41, with a recommended Light level of at least 240, so it’s best to get a Fireteam together and take it on if you want to stand any chance of success.
  • Daily Crucible match type – Complete one match in the daily Crucible match type to earn yourself 15 Legendary Marks.
  • Dismantling Legendary gear – Dismantling Year Two Legendary gear will earn a small amount of Legendary marks. This number varies: it can be as low as three, but up to five.
  • Completing Quests – Some post-Oryx story quests reward Legendary Marks. You’ll have to check each individual quest to see what the payout is.

As things stand these are the most effective ways to earn Legendary Marks. As the days and weeks roll by no doubt people will come up with more ways to earn them at a faster rate, but it’s early days yet. Stay tuned to VideoGamer for more guides on Destiny: The Taken King.
