Death Stranding 2 song list and how to use the Music Player

Death Stranding 2 songs and music are among its most distinctive features, courtesy of Hideo Kojima’s interest in the art form and his Rolodex of contacts that allow him to license music other games only dream of using. For us as players, this means a stacked playlist of bangers to nod along to as we play.

However, unlike in the original where listening to music was confined to Sam’s Private Room, story moments, and specific customized structures, Death Stranding 2 has a robust standalone Music Player. It lets you turn on tunes and listen to them when you want as you’re roaming the open world. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to unlock and use the Music Player then provide a full list of all songs in Death Stranding 2.

How to unlock and use the Music Player

To unlock the Music Player, progress the story through to Episode 3 Drawbridge in Australia and then complete Order 011 Destroy the Communications Disruptor and Deliver the Mysterious Recording to the Musician. You’ll need to infiltrate the Brigands camp to the north of Western Environmental Observatory, destroy the Communications Disruptor, then travel over to The Musician shelter and deliver the Mysterious Recording. Hand over the recording to Gen Hoshino the Musician and he’ll give you the Music Player.

To access the Music Player, tap pause then navigate to the Ring Menu and select Music Player. The first time you pause after completing Order 011, you’ll get a short tutorial detailing how the player works. 

You can create up to three playlists, which you can cycle through by pressing the R3 thumbstick. To add a song to a playlist, select the playlist then hover over the song you want to add and tap X. Repeat the process in reverse to remove a song. You can also shuffle and repeat the playlist by tapping Triangle.

To start playing a song or playlist, tap Square. The music will then play as you explore and complete orders as long as you’re within an area hooked up to the Chiral Network. It will also stop playing automatically for major story beats and in certain situations and locations.
