Want to know how to unlock the snow tires Pickup Off-Roader upgrade in Death Stranding 2? Traversing the Snowy Mountains’ treacherous ridges and valleys to deliver cargo to its various prepper shelters is tough going especially when driving the Pickup Off-Roader. Progress is slow and there’s the ever-present risk of slipping.

To make life easier, there’s a vehicle upgrade called the Spiked Tires for Slopes. These studded tires are designed for mountainous terrain and allow you to drive up steep slopes that are otherwise impassible. In this guide, we’ll explain how to get the snow tires upgrade in Death Stranding 2.

How to unlock the Spiked Tires in Death Stranding 2

To get the snow tires, you’ll need to reach 1 stars connection level with the South Fort Knot (F6) facility. As a reward for doing so, you’ll receive the Spiked Tires for Slopes vehicle upgrade. South Fort Knot (F6) is located in the very southeastern corner of Australia. You’ll reach it as part of Main Order 041 ‘[Hazardous] Deliver the Chiral Field Controller Prototypes to F6’ in Episode 9 Puppets. Completing the Main Order 041 will not just connect the facility to the Chiral Network but also push the connection level past 1 stars, unlocking the upgrade.

How to install the snow tires in Death Stranding 2

To install the Spiked Tires, you’ll need to visit a Garage in any major facility or onboard the DHV Magellan. Interact with a Delivery Terminal, then follow these steps:

  • Select Fabrication and Management
  • Head to Garage
  • Hover over your Pickup Off-Roader, tap X, and select Vehicle Customisation
  • Scroll down to the Tires section at the bottom and tap X on Fabricate Components
  • Select the Spiked Tires for Slopes upgrade and tap X to install

With them installed, you’ll notice a tangible difference when driving up steep slopes. The Off-Roader will also move faster on snow regardless of the gradient and will be less likely to slip and slide. It should make delivering cargo to preppers in the Snowy Mountains much quicker and safer.

If you’re after more vehicle upgrades, check out all the Australia connection level rewards. As you get deeper into the game, it’s well worth finding all the Auto-Paver locations to patch up the road network across the continent. If you’re having trouble finding all the facilities in the Snowy Mountains, check out the BPAS location and The Adventurer location, which you’ll need to visit to complete the Chiral Network.
