With every new Magic: The Gathering release, a plethora of new basic lands are added to the game. These are all provided for free to every user of MTG Arena. There are many fantastic choices, and luckily, Magic lets you pick whatever basic land you want to run in your deck. You are given an unlimited amount of all basic lands from regular Standard and Alchemy sets. The only exceptions are sets such as Jumpstart that require you to have opened the theme pack with the corresponding land inside of it. This guide will tell you exactly how to change land art in Magic: The Gathering: Arena.

How to change Land art in MTG Arena

  1. Open the Deck Editor

This is where you will build decks and customise your cards.

  2. Click the two opposing arrows on your target card

This is going to swap out all Lands in the land tap with variants of that selected card.Screenshot of the magic the gathering card game with Land art modification in MTG Arena.

  3. Click the heart on your desired Land art

You can then choose your favourite Land style.

To change what basic land art you want to use (or style/printing when applicable), you must be inside your deck editor. Here, you can click on the two arrows on the top left corner of the card. This will then replace all lands in the land tab with all versions of that land.

Afterwards, you can click on the heart in the bottom right corner to favourite that land style. From there on out, all your decks will use that basic land art by default for any future deck. This does not retroactively alter any decks prior to setting a favourite.

Unlocking Basic Lands:

While basic lands are available and given out for free every set release (and you receive all basics from previous sets), some are locked behind certain products. The most notable example of Jumpstart lands, which are exclusive to a certain theme of Jumpstart you can only get through Jumpstart events. You cannot craft land styles you do not have, and must unlock them through their intended method. In Midweek Magic events, the random cosmetic you get for getting three wins can give you a basic land, but the odds of this are extraordinarily low.

You can only have one favourite basic land at a time. Even if you set a land style to be a favourite, it does not alter the land in your deck and you must remove the lands currently in the deck and put the land back in.

If you want to use a specific land for just one deck but not set it as a favourite, you can do that. To do so, click on the arrows to bring up all basic land styles. Here, simply click on the style you want to use in your deck which will add a basic land of that art to your deck.

You can put multiple arts in your deck, and will appear separate from other basic lands in your decklist, but will function the same. There is no positive or negative effect from playing separate basic land styles.

While you are mostly going to be doing this with basic lands, non-basic lands with other art can be treated the same way (but you are limited to only four copies per deck still). It’s rare for a non-basic land to be reprinted, but notably tapped lifegain lands such as Blossoming Sands are frequently reprinted so there are multiple land arts for them to choose from on Magic: The Gathering: Arena.
