Disney’s new trading card game Lorcana has boomed in popularity since its release. The publisher of the game, Ravensburger is continuing to support the game with incredible new cards and sets with a couple hundred cards each. But not all cards are created equal, so what are the best Disney Lorcana cards from The First Chapter?

We’ve ranked the top 15 cards in the set that you should be playing in your decks. Cards from all six ink types are represented on the list so no matter what you’re playing you’ll hopefully find something that you’ll enjoy using. If you’re just getting into the game, then be sure to check out our best Disney Lorcana starter decks guide, as well as our how to play Disney Lorcana guide.

15. Be Prepared

Picture of the Disney Lorcana card Be Prepared

Our first card on our best Disney Lorcana cards list is Be Prepared. This is a song card that costs seven in to play, but because it’s a song, if you have a seven cost character in play, you can cast this for free. Be Prepared banishes all characters in play. Typically board wipes are not all that common, so when they come along, they’re definitely worth considering.

14. Kuzco – Temperamental Emperor

Picture of the Disney Lorcana card, Kuzco - Temperamental Emperor

Number 14 on the list is Kuzco – Temperamental Emperor. Kuzco is a very difficult character to deal with. He has Ward, meaning that he can’t be chosen by spells or abilities, only challenged. He quests for three lore, so your opponents will want to deal with him, but when they do, they’ll end up losing the creature that challenged him. Ultimately, Kuzco – Temperamental Emperor can be a ticket to an early Lore lead.

13. Ursula – Power Hungry

Picture of the Disney Lorcana card Ursula - Power Hungry

Next up, we have Ursula – Power Hungry. Now this card is definitely one that’s going to be better in multiplayer games, but is pretty decent in 1v1. She quests for three lore, which is great, but she’s quite expensive at seven ink. When you play her, she will drain each opponent for one lore, and you draw a card for each lore lost. To boot, she has a lot of willpower, so at the very least, she’ll hopefully stick around to quest.

12. John Silver – Alien Pirate

Number 12 on our best Disney Lorcana cards list is John Silver – Alien Pirate. John Silver is a quest blocker, which can be very powerful. When he is played and whenever he quests, he will give an opposing character Reckless during their next turn. This means that they can’t quest and must challenge if able. This is great for targeting high lore value characters, like Ursula for example, and preventing them from questing. On top of that, he’s got a solid stat line and he quests for two, which is pretty solid all around.

11. A Whole New World

Next up, we have another song. A Whole New World costs five ink, but can be played for free if you have a character that costs five in play. Simply put, A Whole New World makes each player discard their hand and draw a new seven card hand. This is incredibly strong, especially if you start your turn with little to no cards in hand, and can cast this for free. Yes your opponent will also get a fresh set of cards, but you hopefully are at a point in the game where you can take advantage of that more than your opponent can.

10. Lilo – Making a Wish

Kicking off our top 10, we have Lilo – Making a Wish. This Lilo is a very unassuming card, but is very powerful. She’s a simple 1/1 for 1 with no ability. Where her power comes in is that she quests for two lore points. This can propel you to a very quick lore lead if your opponent cannot deal with Lilo in the first turn or two of the game. If you want to try and win the Lore game as quick as you can Lilo – Making a Wish is a great start.

9. Stitch – Rock Star

Number 9 on our list is Stitch – Rock Star. Now Stitck – Rock Star is a fantastic card to have in your aggressive style decks. If you have a cheaper Stitch in play, you can play this version for only four ink. Then any cheap characters that you play, you can immediately exert them to draw a card. Typically in aggressive decks, you run out of cards in hand quickly since you’re playing many cards in a turn. But Stitch can help you quickly refill your hand and keep the ball rolling. Not to mention, he quests for three lore himself, so that’s a great bonus.

8. Stitch – Carefree Surfer

Number 8 on the list is another Stitch, Stitch – Carefree Surfer. Like the Stitch before him, this Stitch is another great way to draw cards to keep your hand nice and full. He is a bit expensive at seven ink cost, but he has a great stat line, and you’re probably going to have cheap creatures in play so you can get the benefit of two free cards on a pretty consistent basis.

7. Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor

Picture of the Disney Lorcana card Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Tailor

Lucky number 7 on the best Disney Lorcana cards list is your friend and mine, Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor. This mouse is a house. Yes he’s costly at eight ink, but he’s a way to gain a ton of lore very quickly. He’s evasive, so he has to be challenged, and he’s a 5/5 so he can take a hit. The best part is that he quests for four lore, giving you a nice uptick towards winning the game.

6. Hades – Infernal Schemer

Picture of the Disney Lorcana card Hades - Infernal Schemer

Next up, it’s the lord of the underworld himself, Hades – Infernal Schemer. Hades is a seven ink cost card, for a 3/6 with two lore value. Expensive, but an ok set of stats. But his ability is very strong. When he’s played, he can choose an opposing character, and send them to the inkwell. This effectively takes them out of the game. Power plays like Hades can ultimately turn the tides and set your opponent back pretty heavily.

5. Tinker Bell – Giant Fairy

Picture of the Disney Lorcana card Tinker Bell - Giant Fairy

Starting out in our top 5, we have Tinker Bell – Giant Fairy. Tink isn’t messing around here. She has Shift 4, meaning she can be played for cheaper if you have another Tinker Bell in play. When she enters play, she deals one damage to each opposing character. Then, whenever she banishes another character, she can deal two damage to another opposing character. You can find yourself in situations where Tinker Bell can wipe out your opponent’s characters in one fell swoop. While this isn’t an unconditional board wipe, it’s a one sided effect, which makes it incredible.

4. Belle – Strange but Special

Picture of the Disney Lorcana card Belle - Strange but Special

Number 4 on our best Disney Lorcana cards list, we have Belle – Strange but Special. Having access to ink is very important for playing some of the more impactful cards in the game, and Belle does just that for you. She lets you play an additional ink during each of your turns. Then, if you have 10 or more cards in your inkwell, she quests for five lore points. She’s a little frail, but assumedly you’ll have enough ink going to deal with pressure from your opponent and can keep her around long enough to get her questing.

3. Maleficent – Monstrous Dragon

Picture of the Disney Lorcana card Maleficent - Monstrous Dragon

Our bronze medal winner is Maleficent – Monstrous Dragon. Who doesn’t love a massive dragon? Of course she’s expensive, costing nine ink to play, but you get a 7/5 with two lore value, and she banishes a creature when she comes into play. Considering that Ruby has a lot of these effects, your opponent’s board should be pretty clear, allowing you to maximize Maleficent’s effect.

2. Elsa – Spirit of Winter

Picture of the Disney Lorcana card Elsa - Spirit of Winter

For our silver medal, we have the queen of freeze herself, Elsa – Spirit of Winter. This Elsa has Shift 6, so she can be played for two ink cheaper on top of another Elsa you have in play. But when she comes in, she makes an icy crash. She exerts two opposing characters, and they cannot ready on their next turn. This can keep some bigger lore value or high strength characters at bay. She also quests for three lore which is quite nice.

1. Rapunzel – Gifted with Healing

Picture of the Disney Lorcana card Rapunzel - Gifted with Healing

Our gold medal for the best Disney Lorcana cards from The First Chapter goes to the Golden Girl, Rapunzel – Gifted with Healing! This Rapunzel is simply stellar. She comes into play, and heals one of your characters for up to three damage. Then for each damage you heal, you get to draw a card. For midrange strategies, this card does everything you want. She keeps your characters alive and draws you cards. While she doesn’t challenge for much, she has a decent amount of willpower for her cost, and she quests for two. At the end of the day Rapunzel – Gifted with Healing is the catalyst to propelling your advantages into the late game and is definitely deserving of this stop spot.

And that’s our list folks! Hopefully you found something here that you’d like to add to your own decks, and soon be able to get your hands on these cards when the set gets reprinted.
