You can improve your approval rating with characters by making choices that align with their motives and beliefs. Working through their personal quests and their romance quest can also boost your approval rating. Some of these can be extensive, like Shadowheart’s trials at the Gauntlet of Shar and dealing with the Baldur’s Gate 3 Nightsong.

Karlach’s romance questline after the Nautiloid ship involves Infernal Iron to repair her infernal engine. Here’s where Dammon is in Baldur’s Gate 3. How to increase approval with companions in BG3?

Perform actions that align with the characters’ morals and values (or lack thereof) to raise approval in BG3. Note that choices can improve approval with some characters while sour relations with others. For instance, kind acts will let you build approval with Karlach and Wyll but Lae’zel and Astarion don’t like distractions. Note that while you disappoint someone, you can always win their approval later. A hero with a high Charisma stat makes this easier. A Warlock could persuade characters better than a Rogue character.

And if you know that you are going to make a decision that a character doesn’t like, leaving them in camp lets you preserve your approval rating with them. You’ll find companions like Jaheira and Minsc in Act 3 of the game. This means that you’ll only be able to raise your approval rating with them later on.
