Unfortunately, many games launch with errors and bugs after their release. Avowed has several such problems, including crashes and other similar errors. While thankfully not everyone will encounter them while playing the new RPG, those who do will want them fixed as soon as possible. That’s why we’ve prepared an ongoing list of possible errors in Avowed and offer solutions on how to fix the issues.

Error codes, bugs, and other issues in Avowed

There are several possible issues you can run into when you start or play Avowed. While the list is not exhaustive, the table below lists some of the most common errors and bugs you can encounter:

ErrorLikely causes
Fatal ErrorDirectX or Intel CPU issue
The game crashes during gameplayGraphics settings or GPU driver issue
Visual C++ Runtime ErrorMissing C++ Runtime components

How to fix Fatal Error crashes in Avowed

Identifying the cause of this issue is stressful because there could be a lot of possible culprits. In addition, not all instances of Fatal Error crashes can be fixed before the devs patch the game. However, there are a few solutions that you can try before that conclusion:

  • High CPU voltage (Intel CPUs): Intel CPUs of the 12th-14th generation have been notoriously buggy, especially when operating on higher voltages (or when software demands a spike). The solution is tricky if you’re inexperienced with PCs. Go to BIOS and lower the Performance Core ratio to 51-52x. Alternatively, use Intel’s Extreme Tuning Utility to do the same from your desktop without going into BIOS.
  • Add Steam launch command: Go to Steam and find Avowed, then right-click on the game and open Properties. Go to the General tab and find the Launch Options field. Enter the command ‘-d3d11’ and save. This will force the game to use DirectX 11 instead of 12 when launching.

How to fix Avowed crashing during gameplay

Many players have reported that the game crashes during gameplay or even while compiling shaders. This is commonly caused by the graphics settings being set too high, or possibly by running an outdated GPU driver version. Here’s what you can do to fix it:

  • Change graphics settings: Some graphics settings can cause AVowed to crash. The main culprit seems to be Nvidia Reflex Low Latency. Go to Settings, then the Graphics tab, and turn it off. After that, find Ray Tracing and turn it off as well.
  • Update GPU drivers: Make sure that you’re running the most recent drivers for your graphics card. Go to your manufacturer’s website or software platform and update your graphics drivers. Use the “clean install” option to get the best results.
  • Limit max FPS: You can try limiting the game’s maximum FPS to prevent tearing and crashes. The easiest solution is to enable V-Sync, which will lock the FPS to your monitor’s frame rate. However, you can also do it manually in the game’s settings or through your GPU’s 3D settings.
  • Turn off in-game overlays: Background applications have overlays that can be beneficial, but can also make games crash. Turn off overlays for Discord, Steam, GeForce Experience, and others.

How to fix Visual C++ Runtime error

If you’re trying to launch Avowed and get the message saying: “Error: The following components are required to run this program: Microsoft Visual ++ Runtime”, then the solution is fairly simple. You need to update your C++ Runtime components, or the ones you have installed are missing or corrupted. Here’s how to do it:

  • Use Steam to update: If you’re playing through Steam, you can use the Steamworks Common Redistributables to solve the issue. Go to your library and search for Steamworks Common Redistributables, right-click, go to Manage, then click on Browse Local Files. Navigate to _CommonRedist\vcredist, then open each folder and run the VC_redis files for both x64 and x86 versions. Restart your PC after you’re done and try launching Avowed again.
  • Update C++ manually: Alternatively, you can manually download the necessary files here. Download both the x64 and x86 installers, then run them to repair the Visual C++ Runtime components. After that, restart your PC and launch Avowed.
