Buried in the Assassin’s Creed Shadows options menu are a wealth of tweakable settings that let you customize the game to your liking. Among them is the option to turn on guaranteed assassination. The setting ensures that regardless of your level, an enemy’s level, their remaining health, or their overall number of health segments, any assassination attempt will kill a target outright. No more enemies heaving themselves up to their feet with half their health bars intact after a brutal attempt on their life.
The option is somewhat hidden away in the settings, so in this guide we’ll walk you through how to turn on guaranteed assassination in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. It’s among several settings we highly recommend turning on as soon as you start playing alongside auto-movement and area loot.
How to toggle on guaranteed assassination in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
To turn on guaranteed assassination, hit pause and navigate down to Options. Cycle through to the Gameplay tab at the top, then tap on Difficulty Tuning near the top of the list on the left. Scroll down to the third option called Guaranteed Assassination and toggle it on. You’ll know it’s active when there’s a little check mark next to the option.
You can now kill targets with any successful assassination attempt, even on large enemies, guardians, and those multiple levels above yours. In our opinion, it feels more realistic as no enemy should survive a targeted stab to the neck regardless of how tough they are. It also makes higher difficulty settings feel more fair and rewarding.
Note that turning on guaranteed assassination does, however, make some boss fights trivial if you’ve put Mastery Points into unlocking Naoe’s Hidden Hand Tanto ability. This skill lets you perform an assassination in combat using the Hidden Bland, effectively allowing you to one-hit bosses if you have guaranteed assassination turned on. For a more satisfying gameplay experience, we recommend not using the skill in one-on-one boss fights.
