When queuing up for a game of Age of Mythology Retold, you’re assigned default colours in the lobby. We all have our colour preferences, so sometimes it’s more difficult to get the ones we want. On the other hand, there are those players who don’t even know you can change colours before starting the match. We’ll explain how you can pick the colour you want, whether in a single or multi-player game.
How to change player colour in Age of Mythology Retold
Besides the aesthetic, the colour you pick has no effect on the game in any way.
Your colours are assigned by default when playing the Campaign missions. However, when setting up a custom game lobby, you can change the colours. This works in both single-player and multiplayer. On the lobby setup screen, selecting the Player column next to your name will let you pick one of the 12 available colours. You can pick between:
- Blue
- Red
- Yellow
- Green
- Teal
- Pink
- Orange
- Maroon
- Emerald
- Peach
- Purple
- Gray
All players have to be of different colours, even if they play as part of the same Team. If there’s conflict around colours in a multiplayer lobby, it’s best practice to resolve it in chat. Otherwise, the two (or worse, more) players will keep switching colours until the match starts.
Besides the aesthetic, the colour you pick has no effect on the game in any way. It won’t give you any benefits or drawbacks and only serves to differentiate your units and buildings from those of the other players. Therefore, try to go with your favourite colour without fear and have a backup in case you have to pick a different one in multiplayer.
