Overwatch 2 is a team-based first-person shooter that features an expanding roster of 35 different heroes. Each one of these heroes has their own abilities, weapons, and play styles that they bring to the table. In addition, each hero also belongs to one of three different roles that they fulfill in combat. These roles include tanks that can shield their allies from harm, supports that can heal their team and DPS that deal massive damage to the enemy. Sigma is a tank hero that can shield his allies and manipulate gravity. Here is everything that players need to know about using Sigma in Overwatch 2.
Who is Sigma in Overwatch 2?
Sigma brings the ability to provide his team with barriers that can shield them from damage. In addition, as an astrophysicist, Sigma can manipulate gravity, which he can use to disrupt and deal massive damage to his foes. With the changes in the way that tanks work in Overwatch 2, Sigma can be a good addition to any team on maps that have smaller chokepoints, where his barrier can block multiple shots and his weapons can ricochet to hit the enemy. Used correctly, Sigma can help to lead his team to victory in Overwatch 2.

Tanks were reworked in Overwatch 2
In Overwatch 2, one of the biggest changes was regarding team composition. In the original Overwatch, players were placed on teams of 6. However, for Overwatch 2, this was changed to teams of 5. Because of this change, each team now has one less tank. To compensate for this change, each role received their own special passive ability. For tanks, such as Sigma, this ability is a 30% reduction in knockback effects, as well as a 50% reduction in Ultimate charge gained from damaging them. This can make Sigma much harder for the team to push around, which can help him stand tall in the face of danger for his team.
Sigma’s abilities in Overwatch 2
Sigma has seen an overall boost in his abilities for Overwatch 2, but players who played him in the original game will find he feels very familiar. His base shields have seen some improvement moving from 100 to 200, though he did see a reduction in the overall regeneration rate of his Experimental Barrier. However, Sigma remains a capable tank in the right hands that can protect his allies from harm while dealing steady damage to the team from the safety of his shields.
Hyperspheres
Hyperspheres are Sigma’s primary way of dealing damage in Overwatch 2. As his primary weapon, Sigma throws out gravitic projectiles, which can ricochet around before imploding and dealing damage to foes nearby. Each Hypersphere can deal a maximum of 55 damage on a direct hit, and up to 30 splash damage to enemies depending on how close they are to the area of implosion. Hyperspheres can travel a maximum of 22 meters and can damage Sigma if he is too close to the area of implosion as well. In addition, Sigma does not have to reload the Hyperspheres, but it has a rate of fire of 2 spheres every 1.48 seconds.
Experimental Barrier
The Experimental Barrier allows Sigma to propel a large barrier in front of him that moves forward as long as the ability button is held. Upon releasing the button, it will freeze in place. This allows Sigma to put the barrier in key locations to defend his team from incoming damage. Pressing the ability button again will return the barrier to Sigma. The barrier has 700 HP and will begin to restore 100 HP per second starting 2 seconds after being down. The barrier has a 2-second cooldown after being recalled, and a 5-second cooldown after being destroyed.
Kinetic Grasp
When using Kinetic Grasp, Sigma can stop projectiles coming toward him in midair and convert them into shields. The ability converts 60% of the absorbed damage into shields and has a range of 3 meters in front of Sigma. The duration of the ability is 2 seconds and has a cooldown of 12 seconds. This ability can be used to prevent damage from any projectile, including Ultimate Abilities if timed right, and can be a large boon for Sigma and his allies.
Accretion
Upon using Accretion, Sigma will pull up a large mass of debris and fling it as a projectile toward his foes. Upon hitting them, it can deal 100 damage on direct hits (increased from 70 in the original Overwatch), as well as up to 40 on splash damage hits. In addition to dealing damage to his foes, Accretion will knock his foes down who are struck by the ability. The knockback ability from Accretion lasts for .8 seconds. Sigma can also damage himself with the ability and should be careful when using it in close proximity to his enemies.
Gravitic Flux
Sigma’s Ultimate Ability is Gravitic Flux. Upon its use, Sigma will fly up into the air and begin channeling his ability on the targeted area. Enemies who are affected by Gravitic Flux will be lifted up into the air and take 50 damage, before being slammed down causing 50% of base HP as damage to them as well. Because Sigma can affect large areas of the map with Gravitic Flux, he can cause mass chaos in the enemy team and even eliminate multiple foes with a single use of the ability.
Tips for using Sigma in Overwatch 2
Sigma is a great tank hero with a solid mix of both offensive and defensive capabilities. Because of this, Sigma can stay back with his team and protect them with his barrier while dealing damage with his Hyperspheres and Accretion. This can be used to disrupt the enemy team and cause openings for his team to strike. However, players should not try to push without thinking about their actions, because Sigma has very limited mobility. If he is caught off guard, he will be an easy target to eliminate.
However, with careful planning, Sigma can set up safe areas for his team, and even shield them from incoming Ultimates using Kinetic Grasp, making him able to counter enemy pushes from even the strongest attacks.
Pick Sigma to lift the team to victory in Overwatch 2
Sigma is a gravitational manipulator that can be used both offensively and defensively to great effect. If a player can master the use of his shields and gravitational abilities, they can cause their team to gain a great advantage. Choosing Sigma can be a great choice for any team and can allow them to lift their team to victory in Overwatch 2.
