Tom Orry, Editor – Something from Rare, Xbox 360

I’m not going to be at E3 next week, manning the ship from the UK and making sure you lot get all the new announcements and assets as quickly as possible, but I’m still looking forward to what’s going to be shown in LA. I think it’s time Rare released a game that has real multi-million selling potential, so a superb looking Perfect Dark sequel would be brilliant. Rare is a massive development studio so I hope they’ll have some other stuff too – Killer Instinct 3 perhaps and Perfect Dark on Xbox LIVE Arcade. I might as well dream about a Blast Corps follow-up, but I’m not too confident about that.

Mass effect asari

Wesley Yin-Poole, Deputy Editor – Mass Effect 2, Xbox 360

Yes I stand by my 10/10 review score, and yes this is my number one most-anticipated game of E3. I simply can’t wait to see some actual, uninterrupted gameplay footage. I can’t wait to see how the shooting has been improved. I can’t wait to see where Bioware’s going with the story. I can’t wait to see what they’re doing with Wrex. I can’t wait to see the new biotic powers. I can’t wait to see the new locations. I can’t wait to see what they’re doing with my Commander Shepard. I can’t wait to see what they’re doing with lesbianism. And I just can’t wait to be king… hold on…

Neon Kelly, Previews Editor – Heavy Rain, PS3

There are lots of heavyweight games due to make an appearance in LA next week, but the one I’m really looking out for is Heavy Rain. Why? Well, from what we’ve seen so far it looks like it’s going to be beautiful, but for me the main draw is originality. French developer Quantic Dream seems to be doing something completely unique here, and if their experiment works then it could open a whole new world of possibilities for video gaming. Possibly. It could fall on its arse, naturally – but I’ve got a lot of time for anything that tries to push boundaries. There’s a cloak of mystery around Heavy Rain, but hopefully we’ll get to take a peek next week.

Explosion counter strike

James Orry, News Editor – Megaton

E3’s always been about the big announcements, so I won’t view E3 2009 as a success unless at least one of the major players makes a announcement which makes video game forums around the world melt like a 99 ice cream trying to host an ill-advised barbecue. A slim PS3, PSP Go!, Xbox 360 motion controller camera or other such heavily rumoured announcements won’t cut it – it has to be something that catches everyone by surprise. The sound of jaws dropping should be heard all around LA.
