Tom Orry, Editor – Carmageddon: Max Damage, Xbox One, PS4

Carmageddon: Max Damage is a bad video game. I played it a lot this week and also looked at the views of others on a few forums. To my amazement quite a few people seem to be liking what they’re playing. Good for them, as if they can get enjoyment out of mess like this, they are probably going to have a very happy life. If you want an incredibly frustrating, ugly, and tasteless game, check out Carmageddon: Max Damage. It is a game that some people like. I don’t.

Steve Burns, Deputy Editor – FIFA 16, Xbox One

Right. Listen. I have been playing FIFA 16 this week. Yes, yes, I know. Not out of choice, you see: I was at a friend’s house and he didn’t have PES. So we played co-op FIFA (on an Xbox One, to compound the bloody problems) and it was…OK. Not too bad. Quite fun, in fact. Anyway. What a turn up for the books, eh.

Anything else? Not really. It’s been a very busy week, you see, and I haven’t had that much time for the playing of games. But I do really want to play Inside, which I hear is great. Or not so great, depending on who is talking. Classic video games people. They all hate each other.

Dave Scammell, News Editor – Inside, Xbox One

Hey look, when I spoke about Inside’s ending being amazing, I wasn’t necessarily talking about the final 30 seconds. I’m not going to say why (obviously), but it’s the last 20 minutes of that game that are incredible because, come on, you didn’t really see that coming, did you?

Anyway, it’s an experience I really would recommend. The art is fantastic, the world is wonderfully compelling, and the 3 and a half hour adventure feels perfectly paced. The less you know about it the better: just play it as soon as you possibly can.

Alice Bell, Junior Staff Writer – Inside, Xbox One

This is a bit of a weird one, because so many people are raving about Inside, including our own dear Tom Orry. I only liked half of Limbo (the first half, with the spider; that seems to be the bit everyone liked best) but everyone was like “Nah Alice, game of the year, you’ll love it!” so last night I played Inside and it turns out I only half-like half of that. I got to a point where I was stuck on a puzzle for a couple of minutes and I couldn’t be bothered to push past it (Ed – Git Gud Alice, you noob. In fact, you don’t even have to be ‘gud’ to play Inside, which makes you even more of a noob).

I’ll go back and finish it but I thought it was alright, not spectacular. There are some nice things. It looks very nice, and it’s smooth, the feel of the world is good. There’s really great sound design – the boy’s breathing speeding up in panic when he’s being chased and slowing down in quiet moments, that kind of thing – but it didn’t fill me with the sudden urge to write a feature about the nature of man/self determination/choice etc.

It’s not a 10, for me, and Dave just said he thinks it’s better than Uncharted 4, which is, in my opinion, f***king ludicrous. Unless the twist at the end everyone is going on about turns out to be so spankingly good that it retroactively makes the entire game a total masterpiece, which I’m not anticipating, I’m afraid I’m going to have to say that I thought Inside was, you know, fine, I guess.

Also every time the boy lands on a hard surface it makes a noise like the impact has broken his shins and driven them up through his kneecaps, and it drove me to anguish.
