Tom Orry, Editor – Football Manager 2016, PC

*Friday morning*

Things haven’t gone well. After a run of nine games without a win, two of my star players out injured for months and my main striker seemingly incapable of scoring, I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m about to get sacked. That would be sad, though, seeing as I’m building. I’ve got a better youth setup now, loads of promising kids coming through, and a starting line-up whose average age is 23. Keep this lot together and improving for a few years and I’m sure good things will come, but not if I get the boot.

*Fast forward to after lunch on Friday*

I’m no longer manager of Nottingham Forest. The board said I had to get 10 points from five games, and after earning just one point from three games, I was let go. I’m a bit sad about it to be honest. On the day I was shown the door the club welcomed five new 17-year-olds who I’d signed earlier in the season, all promising to grow into four or five-star players. I feel like I’ve been robbed of my future, and am now sat looking at a jobs screen and wondering whether or not I want to take a position at another troubled club or just start again.

Steve Burns, Deputy Editor – Californium, Another Game I Can’t Talk About (Yet)

Hello, I’m back. What? You didn’t know I was gone? Well, let me tell you this: Jim Trinca thinks he can poison me and get away with it? That bastard will get his comeuppance.

Ahem. I’ve also been playing PES, obviously, and GTA 5 PC on my new 4K TV, which is Pretty Good. But I’ve also been playing Californium, an adventure game set in 60s California which leans heavily on the work of Philip K. Dick. It’s alright. Especially if you like Philip K. Dick.

Anyway, the big news is that I’ve seen another Big New Game, and I’ll be allowed to talk about it very soon. Exciting, huh? Yes. See you next week. Early next week. Very early. Tuesday, perhaps.

Alice Bell, Junior Staff Writer – Tom Clancy’s The Division Open Beta, PS4

Right, yeah, if Jim poisoned Burns then Burns has knowingly poisoned the rest of us, continually doing a stately walk down to our end of the office (despite repeated protests) to make sure we’re working or possibly not working as hard as he sees fit, breathing germs everywhere. Dave complained of a sore throat the other day. No one is safe.

Anyway, this weekend I did indeed get fired into The Division as promised, and sank some time into the open beta. I managed to play it with TV’s Chris Slight, who is an Actual Real Life Friend, and it was incredibly fun. Genuinely, really fun. I know, right? To be fair I was expecting to enjoy it on some level, because it’s got all that RPG nonsense that I love, but I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. This is now officially a game that I would buy from a shop, but if I hadn’t played the beta or seen it at preview I probably wouldn’t have, because not much of the promo stuff so far has suggested it’d be the kind of game I’d like. The more you know, eh?

Chris and I are going to form a posse in The Division called Squad Goals, because everyone else will hate that. We will be holding auditions for further members. None of you will be deemed worthy.
