Tom Orry, Editor – Metal Gear Solid 5, PS4

Right. I’m making very slow progress in MGS 5. So slow that it’s a bit of a joke. On two different nights I booted the game up at the start of the horse sequence following the prologue only to turn it off again before the binocular tutorial had finished. I am now at least beyond the first enemy camp, which I managed to bungle so badly I almost died. I don’t know why, but the controls in Metal Gear games always feel awkward to me. I panic, end up pushing random buttons, and before I know it I’m crawling head-first into gunfire from enemy soldiers stood feet from my head. I really want to get the hang of things and enjoy what almost everyone is saying is a brilliant game, but I’m struggling.

I know, I know. All I’ve been playing is Metal Gear Solid 5 and PES. Well, no apologies from me. They’re the best games of the year, and if you think I’m wrong I will fight you to the death. Besides, now that the full Premier League kits are available to download from the superb pesworld.co.uk, there’s no need to play anything else really.

So, um, yeah. Sorry. I’m off now. Done for the year. No more games, really.

I’ve played bugger all this week, so thought I’d tell you about my two weeks with VideoGamer, which are now, sadly, coming to an end.

For anyone wondering what working at VG is really like, it’s exactly how you expect. Tom is a troll, Dave is an idiot, and Burns is a dick.

There is, of course, a fair amount of work involved, but a lot of the time it’s just Dave wobbling a sex toy about, somehow simultaneously playing the guitar, while Brett and I look at him incredulously and Jim rambles on about politics or Assassin Creed.

Then there’s the constant deadlifting from Miller, and the endless struggle to sneak Gears of War out of the Xbox One without him noticing. And frankly, after two weeks I’m tired of being called a poindexter.

Oh and I have to mention James, who is generally quite nice, because he bought me biscuits.
