With the Resident Evil Requiem release date upon us, Capcom is still being cagey about which characters will be returning. However, we do know that the game will focus on returning protagonist and fan-favorite, Leon Kennedy, as well as introducing a new character, Grace Ashcroft.

While the developers are keeping their cards close to their chest when it comes to the Resident Evil Requiem characters, the current voice cast tells us a little more about who’s included this time around. However, there are likely more characters to be revealed. Until then, here’s the confirmed Resident Evil Requiem voice case so far.

Interestingly, the rumored voice actor for Leon Kennedy is Nick Apostolides, who played him in the animated TV show Resident Evil Infinite Darkness, rather than Matthew Mercer, who played Leon in the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 4.

This would make sense, as the Leon of Infinite Darkness is an older version of the character than the one we saw in the two remakes. However, this is only by a few years.

Though our cast list is rather thin at the moment, we’ll update it when more details emerge

Will Albert Wesker return in Resident Evil 9?

Ignore the memes with this one, Capcom has not confirmed that Albert Wesker is returning in Resident Evil Requiem, and if we’re being honest, we don’t think he will.

Death needs to mean something in Resident Evil, and bringing Wesker back would make it meaningless – even in a series where the dead routinely get back up again. This would tarnish the story’s credibility and drastically lower the stakes when it comes to dying in Resident Evil.

Wesker’s story was also told in full and came to a dramatic conclusion in Resident Evil 5. Not only was Wesker killed, but he also mutated into a monster, fell into a volcano, and was then blown apart by rocket launchers as the lava engulfed him. There’s dead, then there’s utterly obliterated – this is the latter.

So if Wesker were to return, this would be one hell of a stretch by Capcom. It would also smack of desperation, and quite frankly, Resident Evil no longer needs Wesker. He’s from a different era of the universe, and the series has moved on. His death also took place in 2009, with Requiem taking place in 2028. So if he did return, why has it taken 19 years?

That being said, Capcom is deliberately teasing his return with certain musical cues accompanying some shadowy figures in the Resident Evil Requiem demo. But we think this is more hype generation than anything else.

However, the DLC for Resident Evil Village confirmed that characters can live on and come back through the Megamycete. For example, we know that Ethan Winters’ consciousness continues to exist there. So, if the mold was an ingredient in the T-Virus, and therefore Wesker’s own Uroboros virus, then perhaps Wesker could return that way.

Will Ada Wong return in Resident Evil Requiem?

Out of all the returning Resident Evil Requiem characters, this is one we’d put money on. When Leon Kennedy pops up, Ada Wong is usually not far behind. The two have flirted, held each other at gunpoint, and saved each other’s lives now in Resident Evil 2, 4, and 6. They also met up in one of the animated movies.

When we last saw Ada, she was helping Leon dispose of the villain Derek Simmons in Resident Evil 6, while also dealing with her own evil doppelganger who was spreading the virus around. The Resident Evil 4 remake also gave her some more screen time, showing her disgust at Wesker and his megalomaniacal plans.

So it’s reasonable to assume that her story, and connection to Leon, isn’t over yet. Their relationship, or whatever it is, is yet to be paid off, so it would be odd if she were never seen again. And as Leon isn’t getting any younger, that time could be now.

FAQs

When does Resident Evil Requiem come out?

The Resident Evil Requiem release date is February 27, 2026.

Is Leon Kennedy back in Resident Evil 9?

Yes. Leon S. Kennedy is one of two playable characters in Resident Evil Requiem, along with a new character, Grace Ashcroft.

What’s the story of Resident Evil Requiem?

In Resident Evil Requiem, Leon is likely looking into bioweapon attacks that are connected to the murders Grace Ashcroft is investigating for the FBI. Grace also suspects the murders are related to the disappearance of her mother, Alyssa – a survivor of the Raccoon City outbreak. The heroes will need to return to the ruins of the city to learn the truth.

Is Resident Evil Requiem a sequel to Resident Evil Village?

While Resident Evil Requiem is Resident Evil 9 (RE9) and Village was RE8, Requiem seems more connected to the original Resident Evil trilogy, RE6, and the two Resident Evil Outbreak games than Village. The game is set between Resident Evil Village and its Shadow of Rose DLC.

However, some elements from RE8’s story could make an appearance in RE9, particularly the mold and the revelations about Miranda’s (RE8’s villain) connection to the Umbrella Corporation and its founder.
