Sometimes, you just want to skip a game. Maybe it’s the end of the season and you’ve already wrapped up the league title with five games to spare. Maybe you’re knee-deep in a 30-year save and can’t be bothered to sit through another dull mid-table clash. Or maybe you’re doing a Director of Football save where the matches are secondary to the spreadsheet wizardry.
Sure, you could go on holiday to skip a fixture, but that often results in your Assistant Manager hogging the headlines and taking all the credit. From your squad’s perspective, it looks like you’ve sacked off your duties to jet off to Marbella. Not a great look for someone trying to build a legacy.
Thankfully, there’s a better way to fast-forward the boring bits without your assistant stealing your thunder: the Instant Result button. It’s a game-changer for anyone who wants to speed through fixtures, test tactics quickly, or simply skip the 90-minute slog when you’re already 20 points clear at the top of the league.
Let’s break down what it is, how to install it, and what the FM community thinks of it.
What is it and how to download
The Instant Result button does exactly what it says on the tin. One click. Instant simulation. No need to go on holiday or sit through highlights of your left-back repeatedly hoofing the ball out of play.
Once installed, you’ll find it sitting pretty on the tactics screen before kick-off, as well as mid-match—just below the playback controls. That means you can even bail out of a live match halfway through if it starts going full Arteta: lots of running, not much end product.
How to get it working:
- Download the file from the Steam Workshop or here.
- Drop the
Wannachup-FM24-InstantResult.fmf
file into:
Documents > Sports Interactive > Football Manager 2024 > skins - Launch FM24, go to:
Preferences > Interface > Select the new skin > Confirm
And you’re done. Massive credit to the legend behind the button, @wannachupbrew, who’s been keeping the skip-happy among us happy for years.
Reviews from people who’ve used it
“I’ve never seen the appeal… If you lose, do you accept the loss?… The fun isn’t in the destination… it’s in the journey.” – Reddit user
“It’s not the complete experience, but it makes the game better for many players that like teambuilding more than coaching the games. In the end that’s all that matters: User experience” – Twitter user
“I enjoy the transfer market way more than the rest of the season, so it’s great to get through the games as quickly as possible!” – Twitter user
“I’m doing a save in Malta and I have won 72 league games in a row and had 120 goal difference last season in 24 league games. Would be a waste of time watching those games.” – Twitter user
Final Thoughts
Let’s be honest: not every game in Football Manager is a thrilling tactical battle. Sometimes you just want to get to the next transfer window, the next Champions League night, or the regen day that might finally bring you the next Messi (or at least a half-decent full-back who doesn’t immediately get homesick).
The Instant Result button won’t be for everyone. Purists will argue it removes part of the magic, and they’re not wrong, it definitely changes how you engage with the match engine. But for those of us juggling jobs, relationships, and three different save files at once, it can be a genuine lifesaver.
So, what do you reckon? Are you pro-Instant Result, or is it strictly a last resort for you? Let me know in the comments!
