The powers that be have announced Lords of the Fallen 2, a sequel to the 2023 Lords of the Fallen, not to be confused with the 2014 game of the same name. Confusing naming conventions aside, players should brace themselves for dark fantasy action-RPG stacked with more unforgiving Souls-inspired combat in an unforgiving world out to get them at every turn.
As sequels go, Lords of the Fallen 2 doesn’t look like it’s going to reinvent the wheel, but instead iterate on the lessons learned from the original and the no less than 70 post-launch patches that ironed out many of the launch build’s teething issues. We’ll walk you through everything you need to know about Lords of the Fallen 2.
Lords of the Fallen 2 expected release

According to the announcement trailer, Lords of the Fallen 2 is currently scheduled for release sometime in 2026. Beyond that, developer CI Games hasn’t offered much more in terms of a firm date, giving itself a sizable release window to launch the sequel.
However, like most developers with 2026 launch plans, we imagine CI Games will do everything in its power to get the game out to players before GTA 6 hogs everyone’s attention in Q4. As such, an early autumn release, possibly in September, is a good bet, if not slightly earlier in the year. The lack of pre-orders suggests that a Q1 and Q2 release isn’t likely.
Lords of the Fallen 2 gameplay and story

Lords of the Fallen 2 takes place roughly 100 years after the events of the original. The Umbral darkness continues to steadily engulf the land, causing the aberrations and horrors from the Umbral realm to seep into the world of the living, awakening ancient powers.
Both gods and humans fear the coming darkness, the kingdom is falling apart, and it’s up to you to swoop in to save the day.
CI Games describes Lords of the Fallen 2’s combat as an evolution: faster, more punishing, and more decisive, rewarding precision and risk-taking. Using attacks, counters, strikes, and brand-new execution moves, you will take on mobs and challenging bosses as they dance between the living world and the Umbral realm.
Using the Umbral Lamp, a beacon that grants passage between these two worlds, you will uncover new paths, hidden treasures, and formidable enemies. For the sequel, the Umbral effect is intensified, with players expected to spend more time in the shadow realm using a range of new abilities suited to this nightmarish world.
Above all else, the sequel aims to channel the lessons learned from the original, namely the changes made post-launch in response to player feedback.
As CI Games’ Ryan Hill put it, “Lords of the Fallen 2 will take into account all the learnings and experience, building further on everything players loved about the original game, while also elevating it to a new and altogether more threatening place.”
Lords of the Fallen 2 trailers
Two Lords of the Fallen 2 trailers have seen the light of day so far. The first debuted during the Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025.
Leaning heavily on cinematics, it offers a first peek at Lords of the Fallen 2’s bloody, grim dark fantasy world. It’s all viscera, thorned crowns, writhing tentacles, broody lighting, gilded angels, and a guttural voice over talking of a coming darkness and retreating gods.
The first trailer was followed by an official gameplay trailer at the Game Awards in December 2025. This one offers a tantalizing glimpse of tense boss fights, mob combat, and more expositionary CGI-heavy cinematics to set the mood for what is shaping up to be a darker, more challenging sequel.
Lords of the Fallen 2 platforms

As of writing, Lords of the Fallen 2 is confirmed to release on the big three platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The PC release is skipping Steam entirely and will only be available on the Epic Games Store at launch, presumably due to an exclusivity deal with the folks at Epic.
There’s been no word on a Nintendo Switch 2 version. Considering the original never made it onto the original Switch, it’s unlikely the sequel will be available on Nintendo’s newer hybrid console. Nintendo markets its consoles as family-friendly, along with the Switch 2’s less powerful hardware compared to Sony and Microsoft’s machines, which are likely factors behind this decision. That said, nothing has been confirmed, so CI Games may very well surprise us with a Switch 2 announcement between now and release, but it seems unlikely.
