Features to consider when looking for a Black Friday Ryzen deal

When shopping for a new processor – you’ll want to focus on a few key specifications:

Cores and thread:

Our advice is to look for a processor with at least 4 or 8 Cores. The good news is that the Ryzen 5000 series has a minimum core set of 6, so any processor that you choose is well equipped to handle casual gaming.

In terms of threads, you’re unlikely to choose a Ryzen processor with an inadequate thread count.

Clock Speed

In terms of performance, clock speed is a vital factor in high quality gaming. Generally, the higher the better, though you shouldn’t feel like you MUST have a 5Ghz clock speed for gaming because generally, it’s overkill. Another hugely important factor in deciding on clock speed is Overclocking capabilities.

Motherboard Support:

If you’re going for an AMD Ryzen CPU, you’re going to need to confirm the socket type on your motherboard. The current AMD standard is AM4, which fits the Ryzen 5000 series. The new Ryzen 7000 series will be built upon the new AM5 socket. So, if you’re looking for a new Ryzen 7000 CPU this Black Friday – you’ll also be looking for a new AM5 compatible motherboard too.

RYZEN 5 7600X vs 5600X

The 7000 series represents a level up in desktop processors. This step up in performance is visible in the tests AMD have run.

This step up in performance is thanks to, amongst other things, Zen 4 microarchitecture and a new system whereby the processor comes integrated with the Radeon RDNA 2 graphics engine.

All this helps to create the impressive increase in performance you can see in the image above. The 7000x series also boasts a 800 MHz lead over the previous generation’s frequency speed.
