Make sure you’ve wrapped up everything in Act 1 first though. If you need a Baldur’s Gate 3 Dank Crypt walkthrough or just a quick guide on how to get the owlbear cub in Baldur’s Gate 3 as a member of your adventuring band, we’ve got you covered.

How to save Isobel

To save Isobel, you’ll need to defeat Flaming Fist Marcus before he can kidnap her. This is a tough fight – you’ll want to make sure you and your Baldur’s Gate 3 companions are a bare minimum of level 5 to stand a decent chance.

Upon defeating Marcus, Isobel and by extension the Last Light Inn will be safe. In this respect alone, the rescue is fairly straightforward. But defeating the Flaming Fist and his cohorts isn’t easy, and requires some careful planning and strategy.

How to get to Last Light Inn

First, you’ll need to make your way to the Inn itself. This Inn is located on the Act 2 map, so you’ll have to cross a threshold from the Act 1 map to get to it. The easiest route is to travel through the Underdark, one of the starting points for your eventual journey to Baldur’s Gate itself.

Once you’ve made it through the Underdark, you’ll come out in the Shadow-Cursed Lands. The Inn isn’t far from here – you’ll want to stick to the west coast, heading southwest through the wooded paths, then across the bridge. This will put you right on the Inn’s doorstep.

Do keep in mind though that you’ll have to do a bit of fighting to get here. Once up through the Underdark you’ll encounter some rangers, who will come under attack from shadow creatures. Win this encounter and they’ll helpfully direct you to their sanctuary – the Inn.

How to find Isobel

Upon reaching the Inn you’ll run into Jaheira, a famed adventurer. She’ll confront you, sensing the tadpole inside your skull, but you can talk your way out of this. Depending on your choices back at the Emerald Grove, you might even see some familiar faces intervene on your behalf.
From here you’ll be able to head into the Inn. There’s a few people to talk to, and a few things to do. If you’ve got Karlach with you, you’ll be able to continue her quest from here.

Once you’re ready, head upstairs. You’ll find Isobel up here – the one responsible for the spell that’s keeping the Last Light Inn safe from the curse. Be careful though, as things will kick off pretty much as soon as you reach her.

How to beat Flaming Fist Marcus

You’ll find that your meeting with Isobel gets cut short by the intrusion of a very angry prick named Marcus. He and his ilk are intent on kidnapping Isobel and bringing her to Ketheric Thorm, and – unless you’re going for an evil bastard playthrough – it’s your duty to stop him.

Flaming Fist Marcus has a lot of health and hits like a truck. While you can engage him earlier, we’d strongly recommend waiting until he comes for Isobel. During the kidnap attempt, Marcus and his allies will focus the full brunt of their attention on her, leaving your party more mobile and less at threat.

We recommend using the opening moments to position your party at all the available exits. Close off windows and doors so that Marcus can’t escape. Once this is done, focus first on eliminating Marcus’ support. Numerical advantage makes a huge difference against tough opponents. AOE spells are among the best spells for dealing with the demons accompanying him quickly.

The most important thing to keep an eye on is Isobel’s health. She’ll be tanking a lot of damage in this fight, and if her HP drops to zero, Marcus will kidnap her and fly away. Make sure you’ve optimised your cleric or paladin Baldur’s Gate 3 classes if you’ve got any in your party to keep her alive and healthy as effectively as possible. Healing Word is an especially good spell to use here, since it can be cast from range.

Once Marcus’ goons are dealt with, he’ll attempt to flee. This is your opportunity to pile on the attacks. Keep the pressure up, and your full party should be sufficient to deal with him. Once he’s down, Isobel will be safe.

Is it worth saving Isobel?

We’d strongly recommend choosing to save Isobel, unless you’re doing an evil playthrough. Isobel is the one protecting the Inn with Selune’s blessing, which is holding the curse at bay. If Marcus takes her from the Inn, the barrier protecting it will fall, and the residents, merchants and NPCs will succumb to the effects of the curse.

That covers how to save Isobel at Last Light Inn in Baldur’s Gate 3. There are a lot of tough fights waiting for you beyond this point though. Make sure you’re familiar with the best barbarian, best Baldur’s Gate 3 bard build and best Baldur’s Gate 3 sorcerer build so you can deal with whatever you might face.
