Wondering how to get credits in System Shock? The credits system is a great way to give yourself a helping hand throughout your experience with the game, but it’s not particularly well explained in-game.

Here we’ll go over what System Shock credits are and how to get them. Alongside knowing how to heal in System Shock and how to get guns early System Shock, you’ll be better prepared than ever to face SHODAN’s forces in the Nightdive Studios remake of this sci-fi classic by the end.

What are credits in System Shock?

Credits, or Tri-Credits for formal occasions, are a form of currency in the System Shock remake that you’ll need in order to interact with vending machines. You’ll find vending machines throughout the game on every level, and you’ll be able to trade credits to make purchases of consumables, weapon upgrades, ammunition, and food. Weapon upgrades are particularly worthwhile, and can be found in mod-kit stations throughout Citadel Station.

How do I get credits in System Shock?

To get credits in System Shock, you’ll need to recycle scrap in a recycling station. Most floors in the game have one recycling station on them. When you put scrap into these machines’ inventories and interact with the start button, they’ll convert it into credits for you to pick up. You can also find credits on dead bodies, though this is rare, and not a very good way of collecting them quickly.

Getting scrap is also easy. Around every level, you’ll find a lot of items marked as ‘junk’. This can be anything from toothbrushes and mugs to uniform hats and medical equipment. Right click on these items in your inventory and select ‘Vaporise’. This will turn the item into scrap. You can also pick up small amounts of scrap from the dead bodies of some fallen cyborgs and robots, though it doesn’t drop from mutants. The larger or rarer the item, the more scrap it will give you.
