Posting on the official PlayStation Blog, Creat Studios director of communications Michael Robinson has announced that Smash Cars, the follow-up to the 2003 ‘no rules’ RC racing game, will be released on PlayStation Network in Q2 2009.

The game promises to combine real-time physics, innovative stunts and next-generation graphics to create a single and multiplayer RC car racing experience where players perform aerial tricks and stunts while racking up trophies and points as they race to the finish.

To win in Smash Cars players must perform nitro-fuelled rocket boosts for accelerated speed bursts by grabbing big air and pulling off gnarly tricks and jumps. Points are earned by performing the best jumps and aerial tricks, hitting dynamic obstacles, colliding with other cars, skidding and drifting along sharp turns, and finishing first.

Vehicles available to select will include the Monster Truck style chassis, Buggy and Sports Car, all of which can be personalised in the workshop with paint, glass styles and decals.

Smash Cars will be shown off at Sony’s GDC booth next week.
