Paramount Entertainment and Global Warfare developer Kabam have revealed they are working together to create a social game based on The Godfather franchise, which will take an MMO-like structure.
Called The Godfather: Five Families, the game is set 10 years before the first film and follows the rise to power of the five Mafia families featured in the initial film.
Similar to Kabam’s previous projects, Five Families will allow players to build an empire, while users will be able to take over specific areas throughout New York City in order to advance their personal rank.
Additionally Kabam general manager Lawrench Koh stated the game’s structure is MMO-like.
Speaking to Gamasutra, Koh explained: “The system provides players with a community they can immediately interact with.
“As an example, we’re also going to allow players to switch families to allow for that sort of betrayal and backstabbing.”
An open beta for The Godfather: Five Families has begun, while the game is set to officially launch this fall.
