Grand Theft Auto 5 has become the fastest-selling game in UK history, selling 1.57 million units within its first 24 hours on sale, MCV reports.
The record was previously held by Call of Duty: Black Ops which sold 1.41m units on its opening day.
The game is reported to have generated over £65m in revenue, earning back over a third of its alleged £170m budget in the UK alone within the first 24 hours.
Official worldwide sales of GTA 5 have yet to be announced by Rockstar.
Hundreds of stores across the country opened at midnight on Tuesday to celebrate the launch of the hotly-anticipated game, but not before some lucky gamers managed to get their hands on it days in advance.
GTA 5 has also scored exceptionally well with critics, becoming one of the highest-rated games of all time. The Xbox 360 version of the game currently holds a 98 Metacritic rating.
