There really is a Funko for everything at this point. That’s not even a joke anymore, it’s just an observable fact. Go looking for something niche, say Blade Runner or Star Trek, and chances are you’ll find a big-headed vinyl version of it staring back at you, begging to be ripped out of its box and devalued.
Now it’s Persona’s turn, as Funko rolls out a new line of Pop figures to celebrate the series’ 30th anniversary. Yes, somehow Persona is 30 years old. Time is cruel like that.
The new collection spans Persona 3 through Persona 5, bringing together a neat lineup of protagonists (and one very recognisable wildcard). Persona 3 fans are particularly well served here, with both the male and female protagonists included. That’s either a blessing or a curse, depending on how strong your collector instincts and your cash flow are.
The full lineup includes:
- Persona 3 Male Protagonist
- Persona 3 Female Protagonist
- Persona 4 Protagonist
- Persona 5: The Phantom X Protagonist
- Persona 5 Protagonist (Joker)
- Igor
Each figure is priced at $14.99 and, at the time of writing, is available via pre-order through the official Funko store. That’s fairly standard pricing for the start, but as ever with these things, the long game is where it gets interesting. Some Pops have a habit of quietly disappearing and then reappearing on resale sites at eye-watering prices. If you’ve ever idly checked what even slightly older figures go for online, you’ll know exactly how that story ends. eBay is a crack den for second-hand Funkos.
Still, whether these particular Persona figures end up as future collector gold or just nice additions to a shelf, they’re undeniably solid fan service. Clean designs, recognisable characters, and just enough variety across the series to make them appealing whether you jumped in at Persona 3, 4, or 5.
Of course, the eternal question remains: do you keep them sealed in the box or take them out? There’s a right answer to that, and deep down, most of us already know what it is, just try not to rip the packaging.
