The voice actor for Sheva Alomar in Resident Evil 5, Eva La Dare, is teasing a mysterious announcement tied to the Resident Evil series’ 30th anniversary celebration this March. There are currently no hints as to what the announcement could be, but all signs point away from a highly anticipated Resident Evil 5 remake.
Posting on her official X account, La Dare says she has “got a few fun things lined up for March,” alongside several hashtags referencing Resident Evil 5 and the franchise’s 30th anniversary. She also shared a video with the message, “When you know something, but can’t share it with the world… yet”.
Resident Evil officially celebrates its 30th anniversary in March. The first game in the series launched on the original PlayStation on March 22, 1996, starring S.T.A.R.S. members Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield.
As for Eva La Dare, she portrayed Sheva Alomar in Resident Evil 5, released in 2009. Sheva is a highly skilled African BSAA agent who partners with Chris Redfield in the series’ first mainline entry to feature co-op multiplayer.
Despite her popularity, Sheva has not appeared in any other mainline installments. She has instead been relegated to mobile game spin-offs, such as Biohazard Outbreak Survive, and crossover appearances in other games like Dead by Daylight.
Don’t expect a Resident Evil 5 remake announcement
Due to Sheva’s enduring popularity, many fans would like to see a Resident Evil 5 remake. Since 2019, Capcom has remade Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, leading many to assume Resident Evil 5 would be next. Especially since Resident Evil 5 was one of the best-selling games with 7.4 million copies sold as of 2019.
However, rumors suggest the next remakes will instead be Resident Evil Code Veronica and Resident Evil 0, reportedly targeting releases in 2027 and 2028. Assuming this is true, it’s unclear which will arrive first.
Code Veronica, released in 2000, stars siblings Chris and Claire Redfield and takes place three months after the destruction of Raccoon City in Resident Evil 2. Resident Evil 0, released in 2002, is a prequel to the original 1996 game and serves as the actual chronological starting point of the series.
Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem has also responded to La Dare’s tease, promising yearning fans that a Resident Evil 5 remake is “not in development at this point in time”.
While there are no hints about La Dare’s announcement, a return in a CG film or anniversary project feels far more plausible than a remake. There have been four Resident Evil CG movies so far, restoring beloved characters from the series’ rich history, such as bringing back Jill Valentine for the first time since Resident Evil 5 in the 2023 movie, Death Island.
Ahead of the anniversary celebrations, Resident Evil Requiem is set to release on February 27. The ninth mainline installment brings back series veteran Leon Kennedy and introduces newcomer Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst and daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak protagonist Alyssa Ashcroft.
Requiem blends the classic survival horror gameplay of Resident Evil 2 with the action of Resident Evil 4, and Capcom has teased the return of more characters beyond Leon.
