GTA 6 has suffered two public delays so far. The game was originally scheduled for Fall 2025 before being pushed to May 2026, and now it is slated to release on November 19 this year. Fans are hopeful it won’t be delayed again, but industry insider Jason Schreier has revealed that the game is not content complete ahead of Take-Two Interactive’s upcoming earnings call in February.
Schreier is a well-known Bloomberg reporter who previously uncovered Rockstar Games’ crunch culture during the development of Red Dead Redemption 2. At the 5:22 mark of The Ringer Verse Spotify episode discussing the most anticipated games for 2026, Schreier says, “This [GTA 6] is a big and complicated game, and last I heard it was still not content complete”.
Schreier explains that “People were still finishing things up, so finalizing levels and missions and seeing what’s going to make it into the game”.
As for whether the game could be delayed again, Schreier believes “it’s really hard to say right now,” noting that he doesn’t think “anyone at Rockstar can tell you with 100% certainty that they will make it out in November”. However, Schreier believes that the November release “feels a little bit more real than Fall 2025 did, and even more real than May.”
Beyond the game’s complexity, Schreier emphasizes that the “stakes are so high,” explaining that Rockstar “can’t settle for anything less than perfection because there’s so much riding on it,” adding that “the entire stock of Take-Two lives and dies on this game.”
Because of those stakes, Schreier believes Rockstar would not release GTA 6 in “any sort of compromised state,” and that Take-Two Interactive would be willing to delay the game again if it isn’t 100% ready by October.
GTA 6 publisher’s next earnings call is in February
Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of GTA 6, has scheduled its next earnings call for February 3. The call will report Take Two’s financial results for the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2026, which ended on December 31, 2025.
While there’s no guarantee Grand Theft Auto will be discussed, past earnings calls have been pivotal moments for the game. The second GTA 6 trailer was released following Take-Two’s earnings call in May 2025, while the announcement of the game’s most recent delay coincided with the November 2025 earnings call.
So far, Rockstar has only shown off two official trailers blending cinematic cutscenes with deliberately edited gameplay. A recent animation leak featuring Lucia and Jason surfaced online from a former Rockstar developer, though it was minor compared to the major gameplay leaks that emerged in 2022 following a high-profile hack.
One of the biggest lingering questions surrounding GTA 6 is its price. Other publishers and developers are reportedly hoping the game will launch at $100 to raise the standard price of all AAA titles. However, a former Rockstar technical director who worked on the original GTA trilogy does not believe GTA 6 will cost $100, citing the inevitability of microtransactions in GTA Online.
While the single-player campaign is ambitious, Rockstar’s online component is reportedly even larger. Industry veterans have heard that GTA 6 Online includes features typical of an MMORPG, while other reports claim it may function as a large user-generated content platform similar to Fortnite and Roblox, allowing Rockstar to profit from player-created content.
