Long-time Resident Evil leaker AsetheticGamer a.k.a. Dusk Golem has shared 30 seconds of Resident Evil Requiem gameplay aired exclusively for Japanese television. It’s admittedly hard to see as the footage comes from a camera showing the game played on a television screen, but upon sharing the clip, Dusk Golem claims Resident Evil Requiem is “more dynamic” than previous RE installments.
Dusk Golem’s track record includes accurately leaking elements about Resident Evil 8, including its werewolf themes and village setting. As for Resident Evil Requiem, it is the ninth mainline installment for Capcom’s zombie series. It is set to release on February 27, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It stars FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, who series veterans may recognize as the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, a playable character in Resident Evil Outbreak from 2003.
The Japanese gameplay shows both first and third-person gameplay. Since debuting on the PS1 in 1996, the Resident Evil series was traditionally third-person up until Capcom switched to first-person with Resident Evil 7 in 2017 and its sequel, RE Village. Thankfully, Resident Evil Requiem accommodates both points of view, with Capcom confirming you will be able to switch between first and third-person gameplay at any time in the settings.
There are some complaints about the blood, but Dusk Golem confirms the clip is “100% censored” because of it airing on Japanese television. The Resident Evil series gets a “censored” and “Z-rated” version in Japan, so the blood and gore will be a lot more gruesome than the footage shows.
Resident Evil Requiem is “more dynamic” than previous RE games
After sharing the clip from Japan, Dusk Golem claims on X that Resident Evil Requiem is a “far more dynamic RE game than usual”. Dusk Golem says Capcom is hiding a lot of content because they want to wait for the game to come out so people can start sharing gameplay and realize “that never happened for me”.
The leaker adds, “There’s various things in nearly every part of the game that both the player and the monsters can do which make things happen in very different ways, and that’s one of the big hooks of RE9”.
Following its announcement at Summer Game Fest earlier this year, Capcom presented gameplay at Gamescom. This gameplay shows Grace Ashcroft stalked by a yet to be named monster. While the identity of the monster remains a mystery, Capcom has debunked theories it’s Lisa Trevor from the Resident Evil 2002 Remake later killed in 2007’s Umbrella Chronicles.
Stalkers are nothing new to Resident Evil, as there was Mr. X chasing after protagonists Leon and Claire in Resident Evil 2, as well as Nemesis relentlessly pursuing S.T.A.R.S. member Jill Valentine in RE3. For this new Resident Evil Requiem monster, Dusk Golem reports it’s more like the Xenomorph from Alien Isolation. This means it has truly “dynamic AI” and should be unpredictable rather than a directed “set piece”.
Dusk Golem also claims Leon is a playable character in Requiem, but we have yet to see him, and Capcom hasn’t confirmed his presence. Leon Kennedy is a fan-favorite hero who made his debut in Resident Evil 2, starred in the excellent Resident Evil 4, and was last seen in 2012’s Resident Evil 6, barring the Resident Evil 2 and 4 remake. We truly hope Leon is back, but right now, nothing is official.
