Team Cherry co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen spoke to Jason Schreier in an interview for Bloomberg. In the interview, Gibson says he thinks it’s a safe bet Clair Obscur Expedition 33 will win Game of the Year. The developers also tease Hollow Knight Silksong DLC, saying they are “looking at what else [they] can do” to expand the game’s world.

Regarding what they are working on right now, the Team Cherry co-founders tease that they are floating around ideas for DLC. Gibson says, “we are looking at what else can we do, what else can be brought to the experience, and how that world can expand”. Gibson admits they are “playing a little coy again,” but that’s “because this stuff is in flux”.

Schreier asks if they want to make smaller updates like Lifeblood or bigger content such as Godmaster and Grimm Trupe. Gibson says they’re “thinking about different things arriving at different scales,” and “That might mean larger things like Godmaster” because they have noticed “people would like an expansion in that way, being able to enter pantheon spaces and refight bosses”.

Pellen adds, “We just started making new stuff and working on bits and pieces”. They are also “still in this world, thinking about stuff to present to people”. As for when fans should expect new content to arrive, Pellen says, “We’ll start talking about it more soon, but maybe we won’t mention a timeframe right now”.

Hollow Knight Silksong devs predict Clair Obscur Expedition 33 to win GOTY

Hollow Knight Silksong is nominated for Game of the Year at Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards. However, Gibson and Pellen don’t know if they will be at the event as they are “pretty busy”. They are also not planning an acceptance video as they predict Clair Obscur Expedition 33 will win GOTY because “it’s exceptional and broadly palatable,” unlike Hollow Knight Silksong, which “appeals to some and infuriates others”.

Admittedly, Expedition 33 is the overwhelming favorite as it already won Ultimate Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards by a landslide. Sandfall Interactive also already achieved Game Awards history by overtaking The Last of Us Part 2 for the most nominations, and they won Game of the Year at the record-breaking Gamescom x Asia in October.

Only one can win Game of the Year, and both Expedition 33 and Hollow Knight Silksong are up against other worthy contenders, including Hades 2, Donkey Kong Bananza, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, and Death Stranding 2. Again, Expedition 33 is the clear favorite, but there’s always the possibility of a huge upset.

Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards is set for December 11. You will be able to watch it live on YouTube, Twitch, and Amazon Prime for the first time.
