Gamescom is going to see the official reveal and announcement of The Beast is Coming, a horror-oriented project that could be a film, a game, an interactive film-game, or even none of the above. Thanks to a short teaser on The Game Awards’ YouTube channel, the project is going to be officially revealed at Opening Night Live, the first official event of the convention.

The trailer is all live-action, and the line between cinema and video-game is pretty unclear. We’ve seen full, live-action trailers for games before, so there’s every chance that this could be one of them, however we also know that Keighley has teased non-game announcements at Gamescom this year too.

The reveal was met by instant criticism from fans who often feel like live-action and full-CGI trailers are a misdirection from the actual gameplay, and instead sell the game based on aesthetics. With how guttural, bloody, and realistic the teaser is, it’s likely that the actual announcement will need a little more oomph to have prospective players (or audiences) convinced.

With the general landscape of Gamescom this year placing a strong emphasis on horror, this looks like it’s going to be yet another exciting entry into the genre regardless of its medium; film, tv, or game.

Especially relevant to this discussion, after being told that the gaming community doesn’t want live-action trailers or CG ones but ‘the real thing only,’ Keighley replied with advice to “tune in then,” lending support to the possibility of this being a film trailer.

It should be noted that The Beast is Coming probably has nothing to do with Mr. Beast. But we can’t confirm that for until it’s announced fully.
