Resident Evil Revelations isn't coming to PS Vita because Capcom wanted to focus on updating the 3DS title to be a large screen experience, product manager Mike Lunn has revealed.

The high definition remake is on its way to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in May, leaving PS Vita owners wondering why they are the ones to miss out.

Responding to some angry questioning on the US PlayStation Blog, Lunn wrote: "When we were developing Revelations for new platforms we really wanted to hone in on the experience you get with a large format screen, surround sound, etc. This type of setup really helps players get sucked into the horror vibe and enjoy the game to its fullest extent."

He later added: "3DS and PS-vita infrastructure let alone developing games for them are extremely different beasts. Even just the screens as you mention are completely different resolutions/functions."

So it's nothing to do with the installed base being too small to bother with? It's a shame that a game originally designed for a handheld won't be coming to the PS Vita, when it quite clearly would be a great fit for the platform.

Sony are very committed to making it work I would say, it's just lacking killer software for the moment, and the high price in pretty rocky financial times is very off-putting for a lot of people. Including me.

It's a shame that big third-party franchises like Resi are giving it a miss for now, but at the same time the big guns that have made Vita titles (COD, FIFA, Assassin's), have only so far made lacklustre versions of home console titles, which hasn't really helped either.

Costs of developing hardware are so astronomical these days that no company would commit to a new platform less than 100%, it'd be financial suicide.

Sony aren't doing a good job with the Vita really. They are leaving it to die.

It's either the install base is too small or that Nintendo somehow managed to keep it a 3DS exclusive for handhelds. Capcom does kind of owe Nintendo after they forced them make the circle pad pro add on which was useless.

In the end Capcom realised that this was the best received Resi-Evil game last year, so they wanted to make quick buck with a console port. And making a quick doesn't involve supporting a platform that they may not make a profit from. It's a shame since the Vita a nice piece of kit.

That somewhat presumes we all have "large" TVs.
