Speaking on BBC Radio 4, reporter Marc Cieslak revealed that the controversial airport scene in the game "saddened rather than shocked" him, largely because it disproved his belief that the video games industry had "grown up a little bit".

Asked if he'd been damaged by the game, Cieslak responded: "Oh not at all. I've played an awful lot of games and watched an awful lot of movies.

"I wasn't shocked by it but I felt a little bit saddened. I thought the games industry had moved beyond shock tactics for shock tactics sake. And that's what I thought about this particular level: it was controversial for the sake of being controversial. I didn't think it necessarily needed to be included in the game."

Modern Warfare 2 is out now for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Do you agree with Cieslak? Has Modern Warfare used shock tactics in order to gain publicity? Is the game evidence that the industry still has plenty of growing up to do? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Just my personal opinion I thought the scene wasn't needed at all - and came across as a cheap publicity stunt, for me it actually took away from the believabilty of the story

Show Spoiler a CIA agent mowing down innocent civilians - yeah right!

at the end of the day its each to there own some people can tolerate things more than others. it does have some terrorist similarties, but do you remember that old cods when it was based on the war times. this game is just keeping up to date with whats goin on in the world.

I'm no bleeding heart liberal, but it has to go down as one of the most disturbing scenes I have played within a video game. I'm not surprised that the media have made such a fuss over it and I believe that the producers deliberately included it to provoke such a response. All publicity is good publicity but bad publicity is the best...

After playing it last night the whole thing reminded me of Die Hard, the music, the sheer chill of the russians opening fire after getting off the lift and that final twist which actually made me gasp in sheer terror, that was one moment i did NOT see coming.

The games industry has grown up, it's no longer catering to kids now, it's now late-teens to middle age people that are the game industries target audience.

"saddened rather than shocked" IT WAS MEANT TO SHOCK YOU!!!!!! That scene showed you what these terrorists are capable of and what there goal was! Nothing else will make you want to hate this enemy more than a massacre at a airport, killing innocent people.

Why do people always involve emotion to these things. You play soviet bad guys in Command & Conquer.

Who cares lol.

I'm not calling his post bitter? Sounds like he's had a rough tainted life. Just one line sparked off Cat Stevens in my head and the rest is history.

Being a Grown up for me means I now don't get shouted at by my parents. AS MUCH! Instead I get shouted at by my fiancee.

What is disappointing, is the politics.

It's like a Republican's wet dream or a John Milius film.

Yep I would have to second rage of thorns somewhat bitter post!

At the end of the day if its OK to make films & books etc that show horrors/atrocities etc its OK to make games that involve the player in them. Also this whole faux intellectual sneering at games was tired years ago...its even more lame and dated now.

Inspired by Rage Of Thorns post and PB's love of songs!
Father and Son.
(Should I blast the civilians or not)
YouTube Video

It's not time to make a change,
Just relax, take it easy.
You're still young, that's your fault,
There's so much you have to play through.
Find a gun, settle down,
If you want you can parry.
Look at me, I am old, still snipe happy.

I was once like you are now, and I know that it's not easy,
To be calm when you've got sh!t all going on.
But take your time, think a lot,
Why, think of every freind you've got.
For you will still be here tomorrow, but your balls may not.

How can I try to explain, when I do he turns all gay.
It's always been the same, same COD story.
From the moment I could shoot I was ordered to obey.
Now there's a way and I know that I have to blast away.
I know I have to go.

It's not time to make a change,
Just sit down, take it slowly.
You're still young, that's your fault,
There's so many gad guys you have to go through.
Find a gun, settle down,
if you want you can parry.
Look at me, I am old, I'm still snipe happy.
(Son-- Gay Gay Gay, I know I have to
Make this decision today - no)

All the times that I cried, keeping all the pent up rage inside,
It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it.
If they were right, I'd agree, but it's only Call of Duty.
Now there's a way and I know that I have to blast away.
I know I have to go.
(Father-- GAY GAY GAY, Why must you go and
blast those civilians away?)

Wow! Someone's had a rough childhood.

I'm 39 yo and haven't had anything like that happen to me.

As for BBC, they're all a bunch of nanny socialist idiots anyway.

Lets see BEING GROWN UP MEANS........

All of lifes thrill is gone....

Learn to be a slave to the system and kiss arse to survive, or die a hero.

Find a girl, settle down, mabey have screaming brats, just to find out you are cheated on all the time, usually with multiple partners, either get a divorce, or several divorces depending how desperate you are for a companion.

Have manic depression by mid 20's early 30's

most have severe health issues by their 40's

OH HELL, Lets just stay children forever. Most grown ups act like freakin grade school to year one regects anyway.

It's a game...........GIVE ME A BREAK.
